FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KEY WEST, Fla. — Race World Offshore has signed a five-year agreement with the City of Key West to produce the Key West World Championship Power Boat Races annually through 2031.

Race week brings the world's fastest offshore powerboats and top international teams back to Key West for nine days of competition, fan events and full-throttle island energy. Race Village returns to Truman Waterfront Park, headlined by the Sunday Boat Parade down Duval Street, the Thursday night Greene Street Party for Charity and the Friday night Duval Street block party.

"We're grateful to the City of Key West and the U.S. Navy for their continued good faith efforts," said Larry Bleil, manager of Race World Offshore. "Key West is the home of offshore powerboat racing, and this agreement ensures the world championships stay where they belong for years to come."

The Key West World Championship Power Boat Races are held each November.

Editor's Note: The executed agreement between Race World Offshore, LLC and the City of Key West is a matter of public record and available through the Office of the City Clerk, City of Key West, under Chapter 119, Florida Statutes.

NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK

As we head into the busy summer boating season, Horry County Fire Rescue's Marine Division wants to remind everyone to make safety the top priority on the water.

Whether you’re enjoying a day offshore, cruising the Intracoastal Waterway, or spending time at the sandbars and inlets, preparation and awareness can save lives.

BOATING SAFETY TIPS:

o Always wear a properly fitted life jacket

o Check weather and water conditions before departing

o File a float plan with family or friends

o Ensure navigation lights and safety equipment are operational

o Never operate a vessel under the influence

o Keep a charged phone or marine radio onboard

o Maintain a safe speed and stay alert for other boaters and swimmers

o Have enough life jackets for every passenger onboard

HCFR's Marine Division remains ready to respond to emergencies throughout our waterways, but the best emergency is the one prevented through safe boating practices.

As boating traffic increases along the Grand Strand and Little River area, we encourage everyone to slow down, stay aware, and enjoy the water responsibly.

Have fun. Wear your life jacket. Boat safely.
