This is Las Vegas Machine. In the first week of January 1947, Arthur Schlauder came to Las Vegas looking for work and got hired here as the bookkeeper.

He became the purchasing agent, then the office manager, and in time he owned the place. The steel they fabricated went into the control tower and both concourses at McCarran Airport, Bonanza and Western High Schools, and a tower at the Nevada Test Site.

In 1972, Arthur encouraged his 18-year-old son, Allyn, to start a company of his own selling bearings and power transmission parts. Allyn set up a trailer on the Las Vegas Machine property and started Bearing Sales out of it.

Bearing Sales eventually got a building of it's own.

Today it’s Source 4.

It’s dark by 5pm now.

The clocks turned back, and in Las Vegas the evening rush happens in the dark. Customers heading out. Employees walking to their cars. A delivery driver backing in.

Here’s what happens when you buy pallet rack from a catalog and put it up yourself.

The freight shows up. You assemble it over a weekend. A month later the fire marshal walks through and tells you the aisles are too narrow, the bracing isn’t rated for our seismic zone, or what you’re storing sits too close to the sprinkler heads.

Now you can’t put product on that rack until it’s fixed. That means unloading it, moving beam levels or buying new frames, drilling new anchors into concrete you already drilled, and waiting on another inspection.

We have seen this happen in Las Vegas warehouses more times than we can count.

Meet Kristi. She’s our Project Coordinator, and let’s just say… she gets things handled.

Kristi is one of those people who keeps a hundred moving pieces organized without making it look complicated. She’s brilliant in our Projects Department, keeps jobs moving, details straight, and somehow always knows what needs to happen next.

She’s been part of the Source 4 team for nearly six years, and we honestly don’t know what we’d do without her.
