Earlier this month, HEB staff volunteered for the annual Berlin Day of Caring, hosted by Berlin Main Street, to help clean up and beautify the City’s downtown. We spent the day cleaning, raking, and mulching along the Berlin Riverwalk, a project we helped design, permit, and bring to life. It’s always rewarding to return and see this vibrant outdoor corridor connecting residents to greenspace along the Androscoggin River. To cap off our afternoon in the North Country, we headed to Big Day Brewing for great brews, food, and conversation.

This is just one example of how we strengthen communities where we live and work. Thanks to all our team members who joined us!

It’s vernal pool season, and our environmental team is back out in the field exploring these small but incredibly important seasonal wetlands near our project sites.

Vernal pools provide critical breeding habitat for species like spring peepers, wood frogs, and spotted salamanders. Our team works to identify and assess these habitats early in the design process so conservation measures can be thoughtfully incorporated into projects, helping wildlife travel safely while protecting the ecosystems they depend on.

We’re excited to welcome Paul Nuccio, a New Hampshire Certified Wetland Scientist, to HEB as an Environmental Specialist. Paul will support a range of projects with wetland delineations, environmental assessments, permitting applications, and agency coordination.

Paul’s passion for the environment extends beyond the office, and he spends a lot of his free time volunteering as a water quality monitor for organizations around Mt. Washington Valley. He’s also a fan of the guitar, skiing, hiking, peak-bagging, running, boating, and playing with his dogs.

We’re excited to share that longtime HEB leader Joshua McAllister has been elected our next President, bringing a deep understanding of our work and the communities we serve to his new role.

Leadership changes can often come with learning curves, but when someone knows a company as well as Josh knows HEB, the experience is quite different. His appointment represents a seamless transition that keeps us moving forward while staying grounded in our mission and values.

Josh joined HEB in 2004 as a junior engineer and has since grown through all levels of management within the firm. On the technical side, he has led some of our largest development projects, and on the culture side, he has played a key role in shaping the collaborative, employee-owned environment HEB is known for, ensuring we continue to offer meaningful careers and strong benefits to our team.

With Josh at the helm, HEB is well-positioned for its next chapter of growth.

Congratulations to Senior Structural Engineer Jonathan MacDougall on his 15th anniversary with HEB! Jon’s extensive experience in bridge design, bridge inspections, and structural building systems, combined with his hands-on field experience, makes him an integral part of our Structural Team. He’s also a longtime member of HEB’s Ski Meisters team, and as an avid skier and biker, he’s always up for a day in the mountains.
