Good, Bad, Indifferent ... say what you will about exorbitant electricity costs, but I'm actually impressed with the new National Grid substation going up on Sandrock Road, here in North Collins. This is going to be a serious upgrade for us out here in the sticks. It should go a long way to improve the reliability of our electrical service. It's nice to see that our Delivery Service Charges are actually being used to upgrade the grid.

On August 6, 2026, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced the Energy Efficiency Reform Act of 2026 (S.5338). This legislation aims to reform the Energy Policy Conservation Act (EPCA) of 1975. The EPCA was initially created by Congress to address energy conservation by empowering the Department of Energy to establish efficiency standards for consumer products and commercial equipment. https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/5338

However, over time, the Department of Energy has utilized the EPCA to set energy-efficient standards that have stifled market competition and imposed a one-size-fits-all energy approach for covered products. The Energy Efficiency Reform Act of 2026 seeks to rectify this situation by prohibiting the Department of Energy from prescribing any new or amended energy efficiency standards that lack economic justification, technological feasibility, or are based on data-driven principles.
