Civil Engineer (PE) – Utility Design & Mentorship
Pittsburgh, PA | Rapid Growth | Real Influence
You just earned your Professional Engineer (PE) license—now you’re looking for more than a title change.
You want:
• A seat at the table
• A team that values your judgment
• The chance to mentor and guide younger engineers
• Complex, meaningful projects—not cookie-cutter design work
• A firm where your ideas actually shape how things are done
If that sounds like you, this role was built for you.
Who We Are:
Total Engineering & Consulting (TEC) is a fast-growing, people-first engineering firm with offices across Pennsylvania and Maryland. We specialize in complex utility and infrastructure design—including water, wastewater, gas, and telecommunications—and we’re expanding aggressively in the Pittsburgh market.
Our growth is intentional. We invest in engineers who want to lead, mentor, and help build something, not just execute tasks.
The Opportunity:
We’re seeking a newly licensed Civil Engineer (PE) to join our Pittsburgh team—someone ready to step into a visible, respected role and help elevate the engineers around them.
This is not a back-office position. You will:
• Work on challenging underground utility and infrastructure projects
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to EITs and junior engineers
• Collaborate directly with project managers, designers, and clients
• Influence design approaches, standards, and best practices
• Be encouraged to speak up—your opinions are expected and valued
What You’ll Do
• Lead and contribute to planning, design, and analysis of utility projects
• Support complex design solutions, including rehabilitation and trenchless technologies
• Review plans, calculations, and deliverables with a strong QA/QC mindset
• Mentor staff through design reviews, problem-solving, and professional development
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality work on time and on budget
• Help shape the future of TEC’s Pittsburgh engineering team
What We’re Looking For
• PE license (recently obtained)
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Experience or strong interest in utility and underground infrastructure design
• A natural mentor—someone who enjoys teaching, guiding, and developing others
• Confidence to share ideas and challenge the status quo (respectfully)
• A team-first mindset with leadership potential
Why TEC
• Huge growth potential with real advancement opportunities
• Flat structure—no red tape, no ego
• Leadership that listens and acts
• Projects that challenge you technically and professionally
• A culture built on collaboration, trust, and accountability
• The chance to help build a team, not just join one
