🛠️ Spotlight on the Clipper Belt Lacer: A Key Link in the Steam Age 🛠️

We’ve showcased steam engines and machines powered by steam, but today we’re focusing on an often-overlooked component that ties it all together: the belt lacer! This humble machine was designed to safely join the ends of leather straps, turning them into durable belts. Before synthetic materials were introduced, leather was the go-to material for these industrial belts. 🏭👜

Originally crafted by British engineers, James Barns Stone, an American inventor, patented a few key improvements in 1907, opening his factory in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to produce this vital machine. The Clipper Belt Lacer ensured that leather belts were properly secured without compromising the material, which was especially important in the high heat and moisture of early manufacturing environments. 🔧⚙️
