A look back at this past Saturday's Toys for Tots Foster & Kinship Family Fun Fest!
Power Mechanical was proud to bring a variety of interactive exhibits and hands-on activities to this incredible event, including our Steam Museum whistle, steam calliope, newly acquired zoo train, one of our home-built trains, and welding activities where attendees could create their own keepsakes.

From steam-powered history and skilled trades to smiles and unforgettable moments, we had the opportunity to connect with local families, inspire curiosity, and showcase the craftsmanship that continues to shape our industry.

🚗 Precision in Motion: The 1906 White Model O Steam Car Engine ⚙️🔥
This week’s Steam Museum spotlight features the engine block from a 1906 White Model O steam car, one of the most finely engineered steam vehicles of its era.

The White legacy began not in automobiles, but in sewing machines. Thomas H. White founded the White Sewing Machine Company, which became a massive success in the late 1800s. His son, Rollin H. White, took that spirit of innovation overseas to study steam automobile design in Europe.

Upon his return, Rollin patented a highly efficient steam generator in 1900, paving the way for the company to begin producing steam cars that same year. By 1906, the automotive branch officially became the White Motor Company.

Our featured two-chamber steam engine is directly connected to Rollin White’s design, converting steam energy into mechanical motion and producing roughly 20 horsepower, an impressive feat for its time.

🚂 The Evolution of the Steam Injector: A Key Piece of Industrial History 🚂

Power Mechanical proudly displays this steam injector, manufactured by the Randle Machinery Company, based on the 1890 patent by Parker R. Hogue of Pennsylvania. Originally invented by Henri Giffard in 1858, the steam injector underwent several key improvements by inventors like Hogue as steam boilers grew larger and more powerful. 🔥⚙️

As boilers started producing higher steam pressures, traditional steam-powered pumps struggled to push water into the boiler. Enter the steam injector—using steam from the boiler to create supersonic speeds, which would pull water into the boiler at a higher pressure than the boiler’s own operating pressure. 🚂💨

Our 1890s-based injector features an added second steam cylinder, allowing it to work across a range of steam pressures. Check out the accompanying graphic to see the evolution of the steam injector from Giffard’s original design to Hogue’s 1890 patent! 📜

A critical innovation for the railroad industry, the steam injector helped boost operating pressures, increasing both speeds and power.

Power Mechanical and its York-Shipley Division have maintained an ASME U Stamp since 2014, allowing us to design and manufacture non-fired pressure vessels entirely in-house. Shown here is a York-Shipley deaerator tank that was engineered and built from the ground up to meet exact system requirements.

Deaerators play a critical role in steam systems by removing dissolved gases, primarily oxygen, from feedwater. This process helps prevent corrosion, reduce scale formation, improve overall system efficiency, and protect downstream equipment. The result is safer operation, longer equipment life, and increased reliability across the entire boiler system.

This project reflects our ability to combine historical engineering principles with modern fabrication standards, delivering robust, ASME-compliant equipment built for long-term performance in demanding industrial environments.
