As Preservation Month wraps up, we're proud to spotlight another project that demonstrates the importance of historic restoration.

At St. Mark's Church in Illinois (USA), Sponge-Jet Sponge Media was used to prepare 100+ year old ornamental tin for restoration. This project required a solution that could effectively remove existing coatings while minimizing dust and protecting the intricate details of the substrate.

Preservation projects require precision and care for the original structure, and we're grateful to support the conservators and contractors who help protect these historic spaces.

This week for Preservation Month, we're revisiting a project Sponge-Jet was a part of at the iconic Guggenheim Museum in New York City (USA).

Designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and renowned for its unique spiral architecture, the Guggenheim is a world-famous art museum that boasts nearly one million visitors a year. However, after decades of service, cracks had developed throughout the museum's concrete exterior, and the existing coating needed to be removed.

Due to these conditions, Sponge-Jet was selected to remove residual coatings and prepare the concrete for its specified coating system. Not only did the dust suppression of Sponge Media allow sidewalk foot traffic to continue around the building, but Sponge-Jet's composite media also limits micro-fissures when blasting on masonry projects, which ultimately prevented more damage to the substrate.

As Preservation Month continues, we're highlighting a recent restoration project at the Providence Superior Courthouse, in Rhode Island (USA).

At nearly a century old, this courthouse stands as a landmark and important piece of civic architecture in the community. However, as happens with many historic structures, natural weathering and environmental exposure had left visible staining across its limestone Corinthian columns.

This project focused on the careful removal of this environmental staining from the limestone using Sponge-Jet technology. The team utilized Sponge Media for controlled, low-dust cleaning that allowed for proper restoration while maintaining the integrity of the stone.

This Preservation month, we're highlighting projects that help preserve historic structures and the meaning behind them.

For generations, the Nubble Lighthouse in York, ME (USA) has stood as a familiar beacon along the Maine coast. Constructed in the 1870s, the lighthouse played an important role in guiding ships through the perilous waters for over a century. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world.

Sponge-Jet was proud to play a part in restoring the tower of this iconic monument, removing corrosion and failed coatings from the cast iron and steel substrates. Sponge Media selected in part due to its recyclability, making it easier to transport materials to the island compared to ordinary, single-use abrasives.

May is Preservation Month, a time to highlight why the preservation and protection of historic buildings and monuments matter.

This week, we're looking back at the preservation of the Longfellow Bridge in Boston, MA (USA). Opened in 1906, this bridge connects the cities of Boston and Cambridge, providing safe passage to hundreds of thousands of people across the Charles River every day.

Sponge-Jet was chosen to clean not only the granite block piers and iconic “salt and pepper” ornamental towers, but also the intricate carvings within them. Sponge Media micro-abrasives effectively removed pollutants, chlorides, and other harmful contaminants, cleaning the surface without damaging the 100-year old stone.

Sponge-Jet technology delivers ultra-high-quality surface preparation, cleaning and abrading high capital assets in one efficient step - even on thick, well-bonded coatings like non-skid.

In mission-critical industries like Defense and Nuclear Decommissioning, a clean, contaminant-free, properly profiled surface is essential to maintaining operational readiness.

This Thursday, see the technology in action!

Join Sponge-Jet and our distributor Matom Ltd for live demonstrations at the Protection, Decontamination & Remediation Showcase in the United Kingdom.

Earth Day is a good reminder that even small changes in how we work can have a big impact. 🌎

At Sponge-Jet, our technology is designed to lower dust generation and enable the recycling of abrasive media, helping to reduce waste volume when compared to disposal of ordinary, single-use abrasives.

We're proud to play a small part in lowering the environmental impact of surface preparation, especially when working in outdoor and sensitive environments.

At a power station in Perth, Australia, corrosion and coating failures inside condenser units demanded action during a six-week shutdown window. With confined spaces and sensitive equipment to be mindful of, ordinary abrasive blasting methods weren't an option.

Working closely with Sponge-Jet distributor, SIM Australia, the project team turned to Sponge Media thanks to its low-dust, low-rebound characteristics. This allowed for clear visibility and controlled surface preparation.

On this day in 1889, the renowned Eiffel Tower, also known as "La Tour Eiffel", was officially dedicated in Paris. With its intricate iron framework, it is a global symbol of innovation and history.

Sponge-Jet was proud to support the restoration of the tower's first-floor restaurant, preparing steel posts and beams for a new coating with our distributor in France, SA3.

Sponge Media was chosen for its low dust, low rebound, and recyclable characteristics. Working 58 meters above ground with limited transport access, it reduced waste and simplified logistics compared to ordinary abrasives, all while the tower remained open to the public.
