Engineers Without Borders-USA CU Ghana Program The Ghana Program has worked with the developing community of Obodan since 2004 to find technologica

The Ghana program of EWB-USA CU began in late 2004 as a response to solicitation for engineering aid from the rural community of Obodan, located in the Akuapem South District in the Eastern Region of Ghana. In 2005, a multi-disciplinary team of CU-EWB members traveled to Obodan and assessed the community's needs; they determined that the primary concerns to be proper sanitation infrastructure and

a water distribution system. The team's first project was a public latrine built in 2005 called a Kumasi Ventilated Improved Pit (KVIP). Responding to feedback from the community, the Ghana program decided to shift their focus to a different latrine design - source-separated latrines. After installing a pilot latrine in summer 2010 and receiving a positive response, the team built six more in summer 2011. Most recently, the Ghana program successfully implemented a gravity-fed water distribution system in summer 2013. Meetings: Tuesdays 8:30pm Hamilton 503
