Redevelopment and adaptive reuse projects are some of the most exciting challenges we tackle at CANY. By blending new construction with restoration, we help preserve New York City’s rich architectural heritage while ensuring its historic fabric remains vibrant for future generations.

These projects test our creativity and problem-solving skills, allowing us to breathe new life into aging structures. From feasibility studies to final ex*****on, we work with clients to turn visionary concepts into reality—keeping the city’s skyline dynamic and its history intact.

International Women’s Day is Saturday, March 8!

CANY celebrates all the womxn who help keep NYC safe and empower those in the greater construction industry. Women compose 60% of the entire CANY staff and over half of our Industrial Rope Access team is women, most of who had never rappelled down a New York City building until they started to work with us. Women at CANY tell us they feel equipped, understood, and respected – and in a field dominated by men, that’s something we’re very proud of.

Some projects just ignite our creativity, and redevelopment is one of them. Blending new and historical construction for adaptive reuse, these projects challenge us to think differently—and we love that.

From feasibility, capital planning, contractors and compliance, we have the expertise to anticipate challenges and find opportunities others might miss.
With almost 30 years of experience we know buildings. And we know how to release their potential.

Holy rusted steel, Batman!

When our inspectors arrived at this site, the condition of the underlying steel was concealed. There were open joints and cracks in the masonry tipping them off to a potential problem. A probe was opened, and a nasty villain was discovered.

The solution required column reinforcement, shoring, waterproofing, and replacement of cracked terracotta and brick at the corner.

Fortunately, our superhero team addressed the issue before it became a much larger problem. Citizens of New York City can safely walk the streets with our team keeping them safe up above.

Do you have an appreciation for historic buildings? A member of our staff brought to our attention the Upper West Side Cinema Center’s intent to purchase the former Metro Theater on 99th and Broadway and restore the façade and marquee. They are finalizing the purchase and just beyond halfway of raising the additional $7 million required by January 3, 2025. Please consider donating to help preserve local New York City history and culture.

Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings. Or so they say.

Not far from the miracles on 34th Street, angels can be seen decorating the façade of the Pershing Square Building at 125 Park Avenue, designed by John Sloan and T. Markoe Robertson of the firm Sloan & Robertson, working with York and Sawyer, and erected in 1923. In 2016 the building was designated as a New York City landmark.

There are several glazed terracotta angels around the building, each one crowned with a different headdress and holding a different symbolic object. Our inspectors found the ornamentation in remarkably good condition considering the age of the building.

Have you seen these angels for yourself? Which one appeals to you the most?
