Our CEO, Alex Rabens, in Trading Herald on the relaunch of our platform: "The updated MaterialsXchange marketplace...offers a streamlined ordering process where suppliers can list products as an 'ask' and buyers can either place 'bids' or they can place a lumber order directly. The technology, powered by ‘Mickey OS,’ is designed to make the entire process for buying or selling wholesale and large-order construction lumber easier and more efficient – with live, real-time order tracking and pricing transparency. With MX’s new platform, lumber suppliers can list their products easily, and the technology will auto-fill product descriptions and variants making the entire inventory setup fast and frictionless. Suppliers can also view all pending and shipped orders in one place, send invoices and receive automatic payouts, and directly connect with buyers looking for their specific items."

Our Chief Revenue Officer, Ashley Boeckholt, with Erik Sherman of GlobeSt, on what a labor shortage in Maine’s logging industry means for commercial construction: “Much of that production has moved south, where compensation is lower and there is a longer production period because of warmer weather. While hardwoods can be used, that tends to be in such things as doors, trim, and cabinets.”

Full story on GlobeSt: https://www.globest.com/2023/05/22/are-lumber-prices-poised-to-rise-again-amid-logging-labor-shortages-in-maine/

It depends on the type of lumber, and a problem in Maine may not be a major issue for construction.

And with a higher availability of lumber online, buyers can select the exact products they need – from multiple suppliers – and have it all delivered directly to their job site. This is making it even easier for firms to see real-time prices with delivery charges and take-rates all in one place – and pay invoices immediately – including with terms or other payment options."

What’s affecting the lumber market right now? Between Canadian mills potentially instituting longer-than-usual "summer shutdowns" due to the low price of lumber and importers slowing the flow of European lumber, due to recent oversupply at the ports, expect the price of SPF (and other lumber) to rise in the coming months...which means now is a great time to buy! Listen to the experts explain why the market could be on an upward swing.
