Part 1 - My Internet is too Slow or 'Why you need a Home Tech Contractor

One of the most common things I hear from friends, family, and clients is that their Internet is too slow and their provider - whether Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner or other - will not/cannot/doesn’t know how to make things better.

However, in my experience, in over 60% of the cases, it’s not your provider’s fault. Their responsibility is to deliver Internet to your home. The speed that you are being promised is, technically, being delivered to that little black box in the corner of your basement.

These are the realities in the Internet installation business. Your installer made their own life easier during installation (and not yours) by placing the little black box as close to the street as possible somewhere convenient for them to work with. Additionally, he’s not responsible for ensuring that you get that same speed across your property which is annoying because you will not be using your mobile phone/laptop/TV/etc. plugged into the black box as a practical everyday way of accessing the Internet.

This is also impractical because the ACTUAL speed you get on your devices is not enough for a good experience where YOU want to use your family’s devices.

Your actual problem is one of DISTRIBUTION. In the same way that the water company is only responsible for bringing water to your house at a single public junction, then you must hire a plumber to distribute that water inside your house, it is the same with Internet which then requires Cables and WiFi inside your house to move that Internet around.

WiFi Made EZ is the Tech Contractor that will ensure that your home Internet is accessible at the advertised speeds everywhere inside your property that requires it and will also maintain and support that infrastructure.

This not just for your everyday devices, but also for smart devices like lights, garage door openers, cameras, locks, and many other devices that you use for security and convenience.

Part 2 – The Digital Age has produced a new type of home contractor – The Tech Contractor

When your tap water is dirty, you call a plumber. When your power is giving you problems, you call an electrician. But when your Home Tech or WiFi has problems, who do you call?

American homes are currently getting ‘Smarter’. Whether it is Nest Thermometers, smart lights, robot vacuum cleaners, smart doorbells, or a multitude of other technology products, these all generally work when installed. But like all things electronic, and particularly wireless products, they require maintenance and sometimes repairs, updates, or replacements to keep the whole eco-system working.

Often, the actual product itself may not be the issue, but another part of the eco-system has failed. When you get support for that particular product via call-centers or even warranty replacement, the company will tell you the product is working fine, which it is. The issue sometimes is in another product or system.

A simple example of this is a smart doorbell. This requires a good WiFi signal outside your front door to work properly. When first installed, you had one WiFi provider where your WiFi hardware was in one location, but when you changed providers, it moved and now there is no WiFi at your front door area - hence the doorbell does not work. You can fix or swap the doorbell as much as you want, but that is not the core issue.

One of our clients purchased a smart garage door opener from a great brand off the internet, but it refused to work. The actual product was fine, but who normally has WiFi in their garage??? (I do!)

There are also plenty of issues that do not arise from bad WiFi. Several clients have mixed their Ring/Nest/Eufy smart devices around their house and there are a lot of incompatibility issues between brands as the technology develops. We have assisted numerous clients with platforms like Google Home or others to coordinate all the technology in their households and also set up the automation routines that make all this smart tech worth it.

A great example of this is a client who has an ADT Home Security System and LIFX smart lights. The client had the smart lights all set up to turn on based on time of day and when they were using various rooms but did not know that their ADT system AND LIFX system were compatible with Google Home as well. This allowed us to use the Motion Sensors from the ADT Security System to monitor when someone was in the room and turn the LIFX lights on automatically, a far better system than trying to time when people are in various rooms!

When something breaks or stops working optimally, rather than stop using that product or service, your tech contractor can come to your house, analyze the problem, and like any good plumber, electrician or other contractor, FIX THE PROBLEM!

WiFi and Smart Homes Made EZ operates a network of Tech Contractors that have the skills and experience to get your smart home tech operating brilliantly. We will find and fix gaps in your inside and outside space. We will connect your devices with your screens. We’ll tell you whether your bandwidth speed is sufficient to handle your Zooms, your PlayStations, and your Netflix. And when you are ready to ‘cut the cord’, we will make the experience seamless.
