At Strix Aero, some of our favorite projects are the ones that push us beyond the ordinary. The opportunity to build an Allison V-1710 for a beautifully restored Hacker-Craft wooden boat is exactly the kind of unique challenge we love taking on.

Bringing an iconic WWII aircraft engine into a completely different application requires creativity, engineering, and craftsmanship that drive everything we do. Seeing historic powerplants find new life in one-of-a-kind projects is what makes this work so rewarding.

We're proud to help preserve history while creating something truly unique, and we can't wait to share more of this incredible build!

The Allison for the Hackercraft vintage boat is back together with many improvements over the original configuration! Robust internals and some much needed cosmetic love. We have also fully revamped the custom dual outdrive gearcase to handle the power. Now she goes onto the dyno to test before sending out to the customer!

Crank assembly day! After lots of surface prepping, cleaning, and measuring, this case is ready to be sealed and torqued. Next the banks will go on and continue final assembly of this airworthy engine!

There’s torque… and then there’s Allison V-1710 torque.

Installing the cylinder barrel nuts today, torqued to 190 ft/lb through a torque multiplier, translating to roughly 2,100 ft/lb applied to the nut itself. A serious amount of clamping force holding these V12 cylinders in place.

Quick turnaround on the carburetor for the B-25 Panchito from the Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation to get her ready for SUN 'n FUN, and she’s already made it to the airshow. Huge thanks to everyone who jumped in and made it happen, real teamwork and long hours to keep a legend in the sky where she belongs.
