It may not be Allison powered, but it is nice to use the new hangar for what it was designed to be used for!

We're currently working through the specifications for integrating our Strix Aero Engine Monitoring System (EMS) with the Wright R-1820 radial engine powering the North American T-28 Trojan.

Our team is evaluating sensor configurations, critical engine parameters, and data acquisition requirements to develop a system tailored to the R-1820 platform.

From cylinder head and exhaust gas temperatures to oil pressures, fuel system data, and overall engine performance, our goal is to provide pilots and maintenance teams with greater insight into engine health through real-time monitoring, remote access, and comprehensive data logging.

Combining modern technology with historic aviation, we're working to improve reliability, simplify maintenance, and help keep these legendary aircraft flying for generations to come.

We are excited to welcome the North American T28 to our hangar! This bird will be getting fitted with our engine monitoring system and new AI analytic software! There is nothing more important than engine foresight when flying.

Many Allison cylinder heads are moving through the shop at Strix Aero. We’re refurbishing each head, removing the old pitted valve seats, and replacing with new ones to bring everything back into spec. It’s detailed work, but it matters. A properly fitted valve and seat help each cylinder seal and perform the way it should when this engine returns to service. Next step, cutting the profiles to fit the valves.

A peek inside various areas of a well loved 1710, its impressive how robust these internals are when they are taken care of properly!

Our second Yak engine overhaul has begun! This one has had a long healthy life and will be torn down and checked throughout, then get outfitted with all of our new components and improved methods.

These Allison V-1710 crankshafts are a testament to the strength and durability of American engineering. During WWII, Cadillac Motor Car Division of General Motors was among the manufacturers producing Allison V-1710 engines under license, helping meet the enormous demand for reliable power in America’s warbirds.

Designed to withstand the demands of high-performance combat aviation, these crankshafts were built with serious strength and plenty of life left in them. Even after decades, many can be carefully inspected, measured, and reconditioned to return to service. A remarkable reminder of just how overbuilt these engines were.

She’s awake!

The Allison 1710 Mule comes to life on the dyno with the unrestricted short stacks ready to make some noise. No filters. No music. Just 1,710 cubic inches of American V-12 muscle.

08/25/2026

After putting the Yak engine through its final round of testing, we’re happy to call this one complete. Everything checked out, and the engine is officially finished, crated up, and headed back to the customer!
