Our lead engineer Jenny, joined by her longtime structural engineering mentor, Ashton Avegno, recently visited the riverside town of Natchez, Mississippi for a site visit to the historic Ritz Theatre to provide structural consultation to the Historic Natchez Foundation for this property.

The Ritz opened as a movie theater in 1935, incorporating portions of an earlier commercial building dating to 1869. Its distinctive Art Deco façade and marquee remain, but the structure behind them has suffered decades of deterioration, including a major roof collapse around 25 years ago.

In order to secure grant funding for façade restoration and structural stabilization, our visit focused on evaluating what remains, determining whether the existing structure can be salvaged, and helping develop a scope of work for the stabilization effort.

Part engineering, part detective work, we love uncovering the stories held within old buildings while keeping a preservationist’s eye on how they can be given new life for the future.

A Louisiana native, Morgan earned both her Bachelor's in Environmental Engineering and Master's in Civil Engineering from LSU in Baton Rouge. With expertise in H&H analysis, stormwater management, stream restoration, and water quality design, she is passionate about developing sustainable, practical solutions that help communities thrive, and we're excited to have her on board.

When she's not designing infrastructure, you can find Morgan at the pottery studio, cheering on the during football season, or relaxing on her front porch with a good book.
