Stage one construction configuration has been established by the contractor for M&J’s project with Connecticut Department of Transportation, the Rehabilitation of the Devon Bridge over the Housatonic River. Prior to the start of stage one construction, the roadway wearing surface was removed, allowing the sounding of the bridge deck to take place. The underside of the deck was also sounded to determine the extent of concrete repair work necessary for thorough rehabilitation of the bridge. The project is already off to a great start, and we look forward to seeing its completion!

Our firm proudly sponsored a dinner hosted by the New York Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE) on Wednesday, April 20th. The evening consisted of excellent food and networking opportunities, as well as a presentation from NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC)ign and Construction’s First Deputy Commissioner and Associate Commissioner, Eric Macfarlane and Ali Mallick. The presentation focused on major components of the New York City state of infrastructure and coastal resilience and allowed for relevant discussions to take place. We would like to thank the New York Chapter of NYSSPE, Eric Macfarlane, and Ali Mallick for a great evening!

M&J thanks the leadership of the New York Building Congress for providing the venue at which four of Mayor Adams’ Deputy Mayors took the time out of the schedules to discuss the priorities and vision of the Administration. We also are grateful for having been able to meet, and chat with, newly appointed Acting Commissioner Gus Sirakis of the Department of Buildings. We are optimistic that the Mayor has appointed truly capable and enthusiastic people to lead our city and to create an environment in which our industry can thrive and provide opportunities for our residents and our infrastructure.

We are excited to report that Perry Papadopoulos attended the Design-Build for Water/Wastewater Conference hosted by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) from April 4th to April 6th. The three-day-long event included opportunities for networking and professional growth as well as discussions surrounding the latest trends in water and wastewater as a means to collaboratively design long-lasting solutions to some of the more common water/wastewater challenges that we see in our communities.

This Saturday, April 9th, M&J’s geologist, Dennis Askins, P.G. will be presenting his abstract, “The Making Groundwater Maps in Planning, Design, and Construction for Architectural and Engineering Projects on Long Island, NY” at 1 PM during the 29th conference for the Geology of Long Island and Metropolitan New York. The online conference begins at 9AM and is hosted by the Department of Geosciences at SUNY Stony Brook.
