Welder/Fabricator Needed

Immediate opening for a Welder/Fabricator to be an integral member of our production team.

Established custom metal fabricating company in New Bern, NC is looking for an experienced welder/fabricator. We need a flexible and effective team player to work with our production team to primarily fabricate custom railings, fences, gates, awnings, etc. for residential and commercial jobs.

Typical duties will include:

Welding, grinding, cutting, polishing, blending, operating heavy machinery, stocking materials and shop up keep.

We install most of the work we build and also perform other offsite repairs and/or removal of existing metal structures, because of this valid driver license is required to operate company vehicles.

Job hours are typically Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. Some exceptions may occur due to commitments/deadlines.

Several months ago my son, Richie, said "Hey Mom, can the metal shop make us a Trident for the Reactor Department?". We kicked around several ideas and got input from the sailors/Officers he works with and here is the final result. To say we are excited and proud is an understatement. Unfortunately, we aren't allowed on base to present it to the Navy so Richie was given that task. It contains a powder coated stainless steel base of navy blue with a rim of cut-outs. The rim is polished stainless steel. There are 35 stars for John F Kennedy, the 35th President as well as the 35 members of the department. Their names are around the perimeter of the shield. The Trident is polished brass, the wrenches are polished stainless steel and the propeller is polished aluminum. "Serve with Courage" is the motto of the ship. It's official designation is "CVN 79". "CIX" stands for PT109, then Lt. Kennedy's Patrol Torpedo Boat in WWII. The phrase "Remember Faintly, If You Can, Those Who Sail Below" is taken from a poem called "The Snipes Lament". It's an extremely moving poem about the sailors below deck in the engine room. The number 1 is simply for Reactor Plant 1. It's hard to get good pictures because the surfaces are so reflective.

I'm sure you are all aware of Hurricane Florence. We are helping the boat shop with the remaining boat pickups and are closed. If conditions permit we should be back to normal business on Monday, September 17th. Everyone be careful and stay safe!
