We haven't posted in awhile on the business page on any really big jobs but this week we had a request to turn a dump truck into a wood and chipper box. The catch was we were getting the truck on Friday and had to have the truck ready to do wood on Monday morning. So that meant putting in a busy long few days over the weekend, which is no big deal for us here at Prentice & Sons Welding.

The crew got to work Friday, ripping out the old rusty material, removing what wasn't needed and prepped for the next couple days. Saturday was designing and building frame work for the new sides and removable top. Sunday, we spent cutting, putting sheets in place and welding everything in place and solid. This was a very time consuming project and a lot of heavy physical lifting of sheets into place by hand. The pictures do not show or tell the true size of this box but the sheets on the side are 4' tall by 9' long and they are 4.5' off the ground. The removable top is 5' long by 8' wide. Now that it is all in place, the removable top will be removed with a hoist or forks.

Over all this project was one that was done in limited time and performed with perfect ex*****on by the team as always when these jobs come in. As always the team hit another one out of the park.

Wishing Zack Welch and Welch Motorsports good luck this week at Super DIRT week. They start racing today to qualify for the big race on Friday. If your not planning on going, watch them on DIRT VISION and cheer on our own home town driver who can drive the wheels off a car.

The James Bray Paving & Excavating 67w has entered Super Dirt Week tech inspection.

Today we installed another set of hand rails for a customer. These were similar to the last one but straight. We had to do some final fabrication work on site do to the length of the one handrail. It was almost 20' long. These were much needed in these locations. The customer had steps in this location for many years and no hand rails which at times could make it very hard to get back up to the house from the fire pit area. The other little set is on a short steep set of stairs that they walked around do to fear of tripping and falling. We at Prentice & Sons Welding are glad to have built these hand rails and installed them to now give them a sense of security while using there outdoor stairs. We received a call to build and install a curved handrail on a beautiful set of concrete steps. This railing was over 15' long and had to be designed to still allow access to the flower bed on other side. That is the purpose for the open concept. So last night was the running of the 9th annual Cole Cup at Utica Rome Speedway. I had the honor and privilege of making the trophy cup this year. The little piston trophy was for the 305 Sprint cars that ran last night and the actual cup trophy was for the 360 sprint cars the run for the Cole Cup. This has been an honor all year making these special trophies for the race track. Special thank you to Jason Broedel and April LaMunion for making me feel part of the Utica Rome family this year. This is a track I grew up watching racing at for years and now to be able to say i am doing things for the track I love the most is a dream come true. Here are the pictures from last night's event with the trophies. Thank you to my wife Audra Prentice and my son Brayden Prentice for being there with me always.

We were asked to make some decorative legs for an eating bar that were also sturdy. The original design did not have adjustable feet on the bottom of them. The customer asked if we could add that feature to account for any floor maybe not being level or making sure eating bar was level when in place. In the pictures below, you will see what the customer had before and what it looks like with the new legs. They came out very nice and another satisfied customer. We had a job today to replace an ICC bumper on a fuel trailer. The old bumper was extremely roted and was no longer legal on the truck. We replaced it with a new piece of tube which will make it legal again and put the strength back in the bumper.

Had a job request to repair the side arm on a brush hog 3 point hitch hook up. It had been welded several times before and kept breaking either above or below the weld each time. We took the opportunity to bevel and re weld the arm back together then we plated the entire arm over the weld strengthening the entire arm.
