Twelve years ago I began my journey into the building industry as a carpenter. Following this path through the industry I became interested in other trades such as HVAC, plumbing, finish carpentry, roofing, foundations, retaining walls, home renovations, electrical etc.. It wasn't long after till I found myself staying at the job site afterhours trying to understand how these building components w
orked in unison and why these structures could withstand such dynamic forces and yet still stand, and on the same note what caused a building to fail and why? I was very intrigued and at that point in my life I found what I was meant to pursue and it was civil/architectural engineering! I began my studies eight years ago to this day both on campus and online in areas involving building science, forensic engineering, land surveying, building psychrometrics, architectural drafting and design, geological engineering, storm water management-open channel hydraulics, statics, strength of materials, structural analysis, passive house studies, high energy efficient buildings both new construction and deep home energy retrofits, building materials and estimating, and many more independent studies. It was crucial for me to understand and couple the physics and analytical reasoning behind the functions of all these topics, because after all, that's what engineering really is. It is NOT a matter of guessing, nor buildings walls in hopes of supporting a second floor by overcompensating or overdesigning, it is NOT pushing soil around or excavating a hole in someone's backyard, it is TRULY and art and a science of the materials and an understanding of how they are affected by the environment witch they are subjected too. My work is strictly limited to residential and agricultural applications. Below are some of the services offered by LRA Engineering. Thank you for taking the time to visit this page and hope to hear from you. Sincerely, Kalem Waterhouse
(LRA) Limited Residential & Agricultural Engineering was established in 2015 by Kalem Waterhouse. LRA's service encompasses a broad spectrum of general civil and architectural engineering analysis devoted to solutions and answers among the building science community and forensic engineering. Other services offered by LRA Engineering include land surveys in the magnitude of minor topographics, monitoring differential structure settlement, floor level surveys, locating buried property monuments (Pre-Existing), construction stakeouts, layouts and site analysis for passive solar gain orientation and agricultural surveys. LRA also performs psychrometric testing for indoor air quality, as well as building heat loss and heating and cooling load calculations. Both 2D and 3D modeling software are available to reproduce an existing buildings schematics or to model the design of new construction. Storm water management and localized flooding mitigation calculations are implemented by analytical solutions and 2D modeling software. Soil sampling and differentiation as well as property indexes used by USDA are used to classify soil characteristics in the region of concern.
