FYI. Yesterday morning (Monday) my family had a serious medical emergency in Arizona.
I will be flying to Arizona because of this which in turn means I will not be in the shop until possibly next Wednesday.
If you dropped off equipment to be repaired I'm sorry for the inconvenience especially when we have snow coming.
I hope everyone understands.

Let's talk fuel.

Why is gasoline with ethanol considered bad for your Small Engines?

Most people have portable fuel containers that sit around in the garage and such. All the while the container is sitting there with fuel in it the alcohol in the fuel is absorbing moisture from the surrounding air. Your fuel system on your equipment is also absorbing moisture from the air when not being used. Ethanol will absorb water/moisture for approximately 30 days. After that it will release the water molecules and this stage is called "Phase Separation". Phase separation in your small engine powered equipment will look like a clear jelly like substance at first and progress to a brownish dried crust. I see it a lot.

Pictures attached is Phase Separation.

Do yourselves a huge favor and USE ONLY ALCOHOL FREE FUEL!

One important issue to remember when maintaining longevity of your small air cooled engines is to try to make sure the cylinder cooling fins are free of grass, dirt and other debris. I know that some people don't have an air compressor but if you do take 5 minutes after mowing and do the best you can to blow out the engine.
Too many times I get engines that are packed full of debris and have overheated which leads to blown head gaskets, loose valve seats and slipped valve guides. Do the best you can.

Tip of the week.
