Custom designed product to adapt a aftermarket "humbucker" pickup to a vintage Ampeg Dan Armstrong Lucite(clear) Guitar. My close friend acquired one of these rare guitars and was not happy with the sound of the stock pickup. The Armstrong model guitars had a unique interchangeable pickup system. You could swap out a "rock" pickup to a "jazz" pickup for example. However there never was a "heavy metal" type pickup produced. I designed this pickup enclosure in SolidWorks 3D CAD system. Without access to a CNC Mill at my job as a programmer, I decided to build my own 3 axis CNC hobby mill in my garage so I could make a prototype of the pickup enclosure. I have programmed and ran CNC machines for over 20 years. I always said to myself that I wanted to have my own mill someday. In 2014 I bought the G0704 mill from Grilzzly tools. I ordered all the necessary electronics online to turn the small manual mill into a full 3 axis CNC. I custom made the necessary stepper motor mounts and couplings. For a control I ran Mach 3 software on a desktop PC with Windows XP. I fine tuned the stepper motors(accel/decel, rapid traverse rates, XYZ travel limits, etc.) until the machine ran smoothly.
