Dear friends, family, Cumberland Hardware customers, and community,

My name is Charity Prater, daughter of John and Shelia.

Many of you have been so kind in reaching out and asking how you can help support them during this time. Because of that, I am sharing a Venmo QR code for anyone who feels led to give. Your generosity will help ease the burden of medical expenses, household costs, and lost income while giving my father the time and peace needed for healing and recovery.

To Our Valued Cumberland Hardware Customers,

Due to the recent events concerning John’s health, his medical team has strongly recommended that he slow down and incorporate more rest into his weekly routine. After much thought and prayer, we have made the difficult decision to adjust our business hours in order to better support his health and recovery.

For decades, Cumberland Hardware has proudly served our community 6 days a week. Beginning June 2nd, we will now operate 5 days a week to allow John additional time to rest and focus on his well-being.

Our updated business hours will be:

Sunday - Closed
Monday — Closed
Tuesday — 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Wednesday — 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Thursday — 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Friday — 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Saturday — 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Closing on Mondays will provide John with two consecutive days of rest each week, which is an important part of his recovery journey.

We sincerely appreciate your continued understanding, prayers, patience, and support during this time. Cumberland Hardware has always been more than just a business — it is family and community — and we are incredibly thankful for each and every one of you.

To our valued customers,

We wanted to share that John has recently been admitted to the hospital due to suffering a heart attack. The news we have received has not been the best, and this season will require some major life changes and adjustments for our family moving forward.

At this time, he is being kept for further observation while doctors determine the best plan of care and the safest steps for his future health. Our main focus right now is making sure John gets the rest, treatment, and support he needs in order to prevent any further stress on his heart.

We ask for your continued prayers, patience, and understanding as we navigate this unexpected journey together. Your kindness, support, and encouragement mean more to us than words can express during this difficult time.

Due to an immediate family emergency, we will be temporarily closed. This was not an easy decision to make, but at this time we feel it is necessary to step away and focus on what matters most.

We made the decision to close today. The roads are closed all around our store due to the Rock and Roll race and won’t reopen until 2:30. Thank you for understanding. See you Monday at 8:00 am
