What happens after extended corrosion to fasteners?
Plain steel generally loses material first, potentially weakening the fastener. Galvanized steel resists base-metal corrosion until its protective zinc becomes insufficient. Stainless steel generally performs best, although chloride-related pitting can still become structurally significant.

For construction near the South Carolina coast, 316 stainless steel is generally the strongest choice for corrosion resistance, while hot-dip galvanized fasteners are a more economical alternative where permitted by the application specifications.
One important distinction: corrosion resistance does not automatically mean greater tensile or shear strength. Fastener strength depends on the particular grade and specification.

Just a heads up. Bigfoot was spotted in the marsh on the south end. 😀 Happy Monday!
