June is National Safety Month! Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing practical ways to keep the workplace safe and look out for one another.

Did you know that the NSC highlights three major culprits behind the vast majority of workplace injuries? Together, they sideline hundreds of thousands of workers every year:

Overexertion (lifting/pushing)
Contact incidents (being struck by objects)
Slips, Trips & Falls

Check out these eye-opening facts from the National Safety Council fact sheet.

In the construction world, we’re used to protecting ourselves from the ground up—hard hats, steel toes, and high-vis gear are second nature. But on National Sunscreen Day, it’s time to talk about the one piece of PPE that often gets overlooked: SPF.

When you're out on a job site from sunrise to sunset, the elements can be just as hazardous as a heavy lift. Protecting your skin isn't just about avoiding a painful burn; it's about long-term safety and health.

Why Sunscreen is Vital PPE:

Reflective Hazards: UV rays don't just come from above. They reflect off concrete, glass, metal, and water, hitting you from angles you might not expect.

The "Trucker’s Tan" is Real: Extended exposure on one side while driving between offices or operating equipment leads to uneven skin damage and increased health risks.

Cooling Down: Believe it or not, a bad sunburn actually makes it harder for your body to regulate its temperature, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion during a long shift.
