Right now, these tools are sharp, clean, and fresh out of the box ⚙️

Give them enough cutting time, heat, friction, vibration, and chip load—and they’ll eventually wear down like every other cutting tool.

But *how* do they wear down?

Tool life is influenced by numerous factors:

✔️ Cutting speed
✔️ Feed rates
✔️ Material hardness
✔️ Coolant delivery
✔️ Chip evacuation
✔️ Tool coatings
✔️ Machine rigidity and chatter

Tool degradation is not a one-factor pony 🎠

Which is why machinists pay so much attention not just to the part being machined, but also to the condition of the tool doing the machining.

Eagle CNC recently had a one-part job where casting just wasn't practical.

We started with a solid block of aerospace aluminum and removed everything that wasn't part of the part.

This video compilation shows various stages of the machining process in our Haas Automation, Inc. UMC-500SS.

What part did we create, and what was it used for? (Hint: ✈️)

CNC machining is all about precision. A machine shop's website should be designed on the same principle 😎

Eagle CNC's new site is fully loaded, offering visitors a more organized, detailed look into our machining capabilities.

You'll have no trouble finding:

🟢 CNC machining capabilities and services
🟢 Tight-tolerance dimensional standards
🟢 Quality assurance and metrology systems
🟢 ISO-certified manufacturing processes
🟢 Industry-specific applications and part examples
🟢 Utility infrastructure machining solutions
🟢 Engineering and process resources

You might say precision machining starts with precision information. Well, at least that's what we're saying... and our website was built to prove it.

New Eagle Group blog drop 🔽

What happens when college students step onto the foundry floor?

Through programs like Cast in Steel and partnerships with universities like Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University, and Iowa State University, the Eagle Group has been helping students gain hands-on experience with design, pouring, inspection, and manufacturing problem-solving.

More than a competition, Cast in Steel gives students exposure to real industry workflows, foundry environments, production constraints, and the realities of bringing a casting from concept to completion.

Our newest blog explores how these partnerships are helping strengthen the future of American manufacturing.

Today is National Skilled Trades Day.

At the Eagle Group, that means recognizing the people behind the work across machining, investment casting, and shell mold casting.

Machinists, CNC operators, programmers, setup techs, maintenance teams…
Wax injectors, shell builders, slurry room techs, melt and pour crews…
Patternmakers, mold builders, core room operators, shakeout and finishing teams…

This day is for you.

It's because our skilled workers dedicate themselves to getting better at their craft every day that we can supply our customers (and their skilled workers) with the parts they need.

That keeps American manufacturing strong.

The Eagle Group had a blast this week at American Foundry Society Metalcasting Congress!

Pictured here:

1) Eagle Alloy's Jeff Cook with a group of past AFS presidents. AFS members elect a new president each year, and Jeff took the helm from 2016 to 2017.

2) AFS CEO Doug Kurkul addresses the past presidents and prepares to receive a retirement gift from the group: a signed Ga***rd Perry jersey ⚾️. Doug will retire in May 2026, turning over the position to Justin Scott, Ph.D., CAE.

Thank you to AFS for putting on a great show, and thank you to all who attended, presented, and exhibited. We hope you enjoyed your time in beautiful West Michigan, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
