Stop pulling dust past your face! 🚫🌬️
OSHA warns to never pull dust up past a worker's breathing zone. That's why Denray's downdraft tables are an optimal solution. Our self-contained machines, pull the dust down and away from the breathing zone.
If your current setup is just a ceiling fan or a single collector, you might be pulling contaminants right into your lungs. Look into source capture or booth solutions instead. Learn more: https://www.denray.com/cartridge-filtration.html

How much are your dust mask costing you in a year? 💸
Breathing through a filter (like a dust mask) makes your body work harder, leading to fatigue and lower oxygen levels. Studies show productivity can drop by 40% in the final hours of a shift.
Investing in a high-quality dust collection system isn't just an expense—it’s a way to save thousands in lost labor and high employee turnover.

Learning the difference between filter "size" and "rating."
Don't be fooled by "1-Micron" labels!
A filter might be able to catch a 1-micron particle, but at what efficiency? Some filters catch 1-micron dust at only 30% efficiency—meaning 70% of that harmful dust is "blowing by" and going right back into the room.
Denray's Cartridge filter tables clean at a .5 micron at 99.95% efficiency.

How much dust is "too much" for OSHA?
For most wood dust, the limit is 5 mg/m³. To visualize that, imagine the volume of a single dime. If you spread that much dust evenly in a 10' x 10' x 8' room, you’ve already hit the legal limit.
It takes a surprisingly small amount of dust to create an unsafe work environment. Is your shop truly within the limits? 🧐

Understanding how the human body reacts to different dust sizes.
Your lungs have a built-in cleaning crew. 🫁
Your respiratory system uses Cilia—tiny, hair-like structures in your bronchial passages—to catch and move dust out of your upper lungs.
Cilia are great at catching "large" dust (10 microns and up). However, they cannot catch particles 2.5 microns or smaller. These settle in the lower areas of the lungs where they can stay permanently, potentially leading to long-term illness.
Knowing your physiology shows you why basic dust masks aren't sufficient for fine sanding.

What is a "micron," and why should you care? 🔬
A single human hair is about 100 microns wide.
The smallest dust particle you can see in a sunbeam is 50 microns. But the dust that does the most damage? It’s 2.5 microns and smaller—meaning it’s 40 to 50 times smaller than a hair.
These tiny particles are small enough to bypass your respiratory filters and go straight into your bloodstream.
Check your filter ratings! If they are not rated for 1 micron or less, those "invisible" particles are likely passing right through.
