Local historian Mike Hebb dropped a boatload of knowledge at last week's Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant meeting. In particular, he focused on the crucial role South Carolina played in the colonies gaining their independence in the American Revolutionary War -- and why that fact is often overlooked. The Mount Pleasant Town Council meeting earlier this week featured a newly-adopted wetland ordinance that will protect water-saturated ecosystems (i.e. marshes, swaps, bogs, etc.) from being built on. The initiative sparked concerns from single-family homeowners relative to their ability to add a patio, shed, ADU or backyard fence to their property.

🚨 THIS IS CAUSING FIRES 🚨

Many fires are caused by batteries being thrown in the trash.

When you toss batteries in your garbage, you’re putting sanitation workers and firefighters at risk. These batteries can spark, ignite, and turn a routine pickup into a dangerous fire in seconds.

⚠️ Don’t throw batteries in the trash.

Dispose of them safely at:

🔋 Batteries Plus
📍 1983 N Highway 17, Mount Pleasant, SC

🔋 Charleston County Recycling – Awendaw
📍 6380 Maxville Road, Awendaw, SC

🔥 One battery can start a fire. Do the right thing. ♻️
