Moonrise off of Waiheke Island… the Southern Cross in the upper left is what does it for me. Also, there’s something about those fruit hammocks. They’ve been empty for awhile now. It’s just this chapter. Before we know it we will return to the islands of bananas and pamplemousse and they shall overflow with their bounty once again 🍌🌴🥥🍊🍋🥑🐓🧜‍♀️🤷

This table best represents the state of my mind right now… all good things though!! Stoked and thankful for the support received from . Also thrilled to finally get our clutches installed! On top of this, we’ve been knocking out electrical and engine work. By the end of the week Resilience will be a better, safer sailing machine ⛵️🔥🔬🌊🐳🌀….

Then I’ll get a nap 🫠

“Reflection” brings us back down to one of the best things in life: hopping in a small boat and just having fun on the water. Reflection doesn’t have a motor. At most she can hold two people sailing. She’s pretty fast. She’s quiet. You can row her when the wind is down. She takes a small bay or body of water and turns it into the whole wide world.

Reflection, formerly “Shadow”, was the dingy for my dad’s boat. I learned how to row with her in Maine waters. I figured out I could sail her by shifting my weight while sitting on the bow while in Florida. I’ve seen her flipped upside down under oak trees back home, waiting for her next calling. She waited patiently for many years while I was busy building other boats and getting started. Finally it was time to for her to come out of the shadows. We painted her along with Resilience. She was renamed Reflection (for what I hoped she would provide in far outreaches of the world). While in Grenada, I re-purposed an old sunfish dagger board to become her new centerboard, and it was there in Grenada that her sails filled with wind again. She’s a little reminder of my childhood and roots, a reminder that the simple things are often the sweetest.

Her last outing was in Vava’u, in the Kingdom of Tonga (pictured here). Who would have thought that my little childhood boat would have made it this far with me (or me with her).

Final days in Maine. So hard to leave but weather insisted. Thanks to for the shots. More to come via :)

Another haul out complete!

I just looked back on an old photo of Resilience. I hardly recognized her. To see our vision and dreams come to fruition over the past two years is an incredible experience. When I look at her now, I see a completely different boat. One that didn’t exist before. We still have more to do, of course, but here we are. Right now things are pretty great.

Im so thankful for all of the folks that have helped us to make it to this point. Some have done a TON, others a little, but all of it adds up. Every bit means the world to us.

Can hardly wait to share more as the whole project blossoms.

Flying back into our anchorage after a nice little sunset flight! Pretty sweet and very unexpected opportunity. Also, beautiful to see Mount Desert Island (MDI) from the sky. Now we’re hunkered down for some stormy weather.

The ulu (Guna for boat). Traditionally the ulu here is a dugout canoe. They do have rudders but are steered by a paddle which can also second as a paddle for propulsion when needed.

I’m in love with these boats. They’re used for everything from fishing to getting to school/work out in the morning. These boats are out with 5 knots of wind and 25 knots. The weather doesn’t really matter, it’s just part of life.

What’s wild is that they’re still made with whole tree trunks and dug out by hand. I was told the paddles (at least in the one I got to paddle) were made with a machete.

I have so much respect for the maritime culture of the Guna people.

Thank you for the warm welcome friends

So happy to be back out in the sweet sweet ocean… thank you mother ocean and thank you fish!
