The Kubota Grand L70 series packs a surprisingly deep set of menus into its IntelliPanel display — and most owners never see past the home screen. Accessed by holding the jog dial and back button at key-on, the dealer service menu unlocks live diagnostic data including sensor voltages, hydrostatic pedal readings, and solenoid amperages that can help pinpoint problems without a dealership laptop. Beyond diagnostics, the menu covers calibration procedures for the hydrostatic transmission and engine throttle, camera and radio setup, fault code history, and display configuration when swapping out components. The video also walks through the customer-facing menu, including the tire circumference setting that frequently gets missed during dealer prep — and quietly causes the speed display to read wrong until it's corrected.

In the mid-1980s, Kubota built one of the most unusual pieces of equipment ever to come out of the compact tractor world. The PTX2100 was a remote-controlled, fly-by-wire tractor with selectable front wheel steering, four-wheel steering, and crab steering — all managed by onboard circuit boards and an RC receiver — sold new for around $24,000, or roughly $75,000 in today's dollars. It was Kubota's way of proving what they were capable of at a time when the brand was still establishing itself in the U.S. market.

Built around technology shared with the B8200 tractor of the era, the machine was marketed around a mid-mount mower deck for slope mowing and dangerous terrain applications — a concept that still exists today with highway mowing equipment from companies like Alamo and McConnell. This one is now a restoration project, and if you have any history, original marketing materials, or parts knowledge on the PTX2100, Messick's wants to hear from you.
