Yesterday, for International Women's Day, we had the privilege of coming together for a powerful and inspiring workshop focused on uplifting one another, fostering connection, and creating an environment where everyone thrives. The session was filled with encouragement, laughter, and meaningful discussions that left us all feeling more united and motivated to spread kindness in the workplace.

Did you know that October is National Women's Small Business Month?

It’s hard to believe that as recently as 1972, there were only a little over 400,000 women-owned businesses in the United States. For context, until 1988, women even needed a male relative to co-sign if they wanted to apply for a business loan. That same year, the Women’s Business Ownership Act was passed, increasing access to capital for women and enabling them to build their businesses independently. This act played a significant role in changing the landscape for women entrepreneurs by providing them with the financial tools needed to succeed. By 2019, women-owned businesses represented 42% of all U.S. businesses, generating an impressive $1.9 trillion in revenue. Today, there are over 13 million women-owned businesses, and that number continues to grow.

Happy International Women’s Day from Harriman Material Handling! 🫶

Today, we gathered together to celebrate the women in our organization. We started out hearing about the role women have in manufacturing from National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), we learned about creating a collaborative culture from Mary Barra, Chair and Chief Executive Officer at General Motors, and listened to how International Women's Day is celebrated at TOYOTA. We closed with a trivia game learning about women’s history and the winning team was awarded with copies of You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero.

“When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when when themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.”

Together, we are working toward creating a more inclusive world for women and are grateful to those who preceded us on this mission.

Imagine a workplace where every year, an average of 42 lives are lost due to preventable accidents. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, from 2011 to 2017, a staggering 297 individuals lost their lives in crane-related incidents. What’s even more alarming is that over half of these fatalities occurred when workers were struck by falling objects or equipment. These sobering statistics underscore the urgent need for enhanced safety measures in industrial settings, particularly when it comes to overhead crane operations.
