It took me a while to process the extremely sad news of the passing of iconic Maryland drag racer, Dickie Estevez. Dickie passed away early Thursday morning, December 10, 2020 at 77 years old. Hopefully most of you had the chance to meet and get to know this great man that I consider my second dad. I’ve known him my whole life, he was truly one of a kind and I will miss him so much.

Dickie and my father met back in 1967, when my father opened Speed Unlimited and they have been close friends ever since. Back in the 90’s when I started drag racing, Dickie and Pat would go the track with us to show me the ropes and help me with whatever they could. I learned so much from him on and off the track.

Just about everyone who has visited Maryland International Raceway has had the pleasure of watching Dickie in his “Daddy Warbucks” 65 Ford Falcon doing those signature long smokey burnouts! I remember as a child sitting in the old tower at MIR in awe, watching Dickie race.

Everywhere I look here at the store, I see so many things that Dickie and his sons, Pat and Ricky have built over the years. Railings, racks, TV brackets, stairs tables and much more. No matter what we needed done, Dickie could imagine it and build it.

I’m very proud of the children and grandchildren he has raised and I’m sure they will carry on Dickie’s legacy proudly.

My wife says that Dickie gave the best strong bear hugs! I know one thing, Dickie had a strong handshake and loved telling stories. And I really loved listening. I will miss everything about him.
