Lets talk Beef. Beef is at the forefront of most news topics today so lets talk beef.
There are four major Beef/Meat Packing companies in the United States. They are:
Tyson Foods — Tyson Fresh Meats; major beef processor with brands such as IBP.
JBS USA — Part of Brazil-based JBS; owns brands including Swift and Certified Angus Beef–licensed programs.
Cargill — Beef operations under Cargill Protein North America; one of the largest cattle processors.
National Beef Packing Company — Majority owned by Brazil's Marfrig; brands include Black Canyon Angus Beef and others.
The important distinction is that most beef consumed in the U.S. comes from U.S.-raised cattle, but Tyson, JBS, Cargill, and National Beef also operate in an international supply chain. The U.S. imports beef and cattle, particularly from Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and other approved countries.
As a rough industry-level picture, the United States produces around 80–85% of the beef it consumes domestically, with imports accounting for roughly 15–20% in recent years. But that is not the same thing as saying 80–85% is “Born, Raised & Harvested in the USA,” because cattle can cross borders before slaughter and companies can import boxed beef.
Here at Monticello Farm and Home we sell 100% Born, Raised and Harvested right here in Kentucky. No growth hormones. No antibiotics. No filler. “pink slime,” technically called lean finely textured beef (LFTB). Never been treated with ammonium hydroxide/ammonia gas to reduce bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella. We sell true Farm to Table beef that you can be confident to feed your family, not something that you do not know where it came from or what has been done in processing.
