Air Quality Alert in effect through Thursday July 16th

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has issued an Air Quality Alert for today July 15th, and Thursday July 16th, 2026 for elevated levels of fine particulate due to wildfire smoke. Pollutants are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range in the south to Unhealthy in the north. Hourly concentrations may reach Very Unhealthy to Hazardous at times, especially north.

This is a Statewide Air Quality Alert.

Plumes of smoke from Canadian wildfires will move through the region this week. The plumes have reached the upper peninsula and northern lower peninsula, and will continue sinking through the southern lower peninsula to the Michigan/Indiana border this evening.

It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in nose, throat, and eyes. You can help reduce air pollution by limiting activities, such as outdoor burning and use of residential wood burning devices.

Tips for households: Keep windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting indoors and, if possible, run central air conditioning with MERV-13 or higher rated filters.

Classes canceled...

Due to the levels of wildfire smoke, MPS summer school classes and the Knabusch Center are CANCELLED on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Riverside daycare remains open.
UPDATES: All athletics are also CANCELLED.

Due to the levels of wildfire smoke in the air, meals at four sites are CANCELLED today: Munson Park, St. Mary's Park, Father Cairns, Greenwood.

Distribution of 7-Day Meal Bundles at Raisinville Elementary, and on-site meals at Labor Park and Monroe County Community College are OPEN.

95 years.
What an accomplishment.
You don't stay around that long without dedication to what got you started. We're not about the fluff and newest craze. There is a dedication to those who were here before us. Their creation. Their rules and their guidelines.
That's why we're here every Saturday; all year long. That's why we're here in the morning and close at noon. The produce shouldn't be just sitting out in the heat. That hasn't changed in 95 years.

So stop by 20 E Willow and help us support local for 95 years. Not lots of fluff. Just a solid Farmers market that has withstood the test of time. That's what we're celebrating.
Our dream is that by the time we hit 100 years and beyond, tradition is carried on by that next group of vendors. We're celebrating 95 years of tradition. And that's why we're still here.
