Did you know that some engines from Porsche were mis-machined, leading to chronic RMS leaks? Yup, it has nothing to do with the weight of the dual mass flywheel, that's for sure. So when you do update your RMS to the newest PTFE version, be sure to check your engine with the proper go-no-go tool!

Don't let someone tell you that you need to retrofit your non-serviceable IMS bearing. In all honesty, the rarely fail. All you really need to do is remove the grease seal, use a good oil, and change it often to extend the life of the original 06-08 intermediate shaft bearing.

When engines suffer from bore scoring, there are no longer enough exposed silicon particles on the bore to support the oil film. This can be measured as a reduction of RvK, which means the bore holds less oil. That means you need a thicker oil. But even more important are the additives, as that's what does the heavy lifting in boundary lubrication. ZDDP along doesn't cut it. You need moly too.

Not only should your engine block deck be flat, but it also needs to have the right surface finish. For an MLS gasket, it can't be too rough and can vary by the manufacturer, but depending on who you listen to, it should be under an Ra of 40 with 15-30 being a good target.

Flatness is also a must. Although MLS gaskets are good at taking up deviations, it should be less than .002" - most of these blocks can have decks up to. 005" out. That needs to be fixed.

Details matter.

What's the point if you own a profilometer if you don't know how to use it properly? Different surfaces require different finishes and how you evaluate them change. Good thing we have Digital Metrology's TraceBoss and direct access to the both Mark Malburg and Lake Speed Jr. - a winning team!

If someone other than LN is reconditioning or honing your Porsche cylinders or engine blocks, trust but verify.

There is no magic molecule in a bottle that can permanently bond to every engine surface, reverse wear, or rebuild damaged parts.

Oil additives can change friction, detergency, viscosity, or anti-wear behavior. Some may even make an engine sound quieter for a while. But if bearings are worn, cylinders are scored, rings are damaged, or surfaces are already failing, no pour-in product is going to restore the original geometry.

If you believe an additive can do this, I have oceanfront property for sale in Arizona. As Lake Speed Jr. says, it's Science, Not Speculation.

Oil can help protect an engine. It cannot rebuild one.
