Garrett Concepts

Finally got this Corten steel cross permanently installed on the bank of the Rock River today.

This piece was created as a permanent memorial honoring lives lost to addiction and the ongoing fight for recovery. Built from solid weathering steel and anchored into the earth, it will continue to evolve over time — the surface deepening, changing, and strengthening with the elements.

My work is rooted in permanence, material truth, and meaning. Steel, when left honest, tells a story of endurance — and this piece is meant to stand as a quiet symbol of resilience, faith, and remembrance.

My dad and I always butted heads on decal ideas. He always wanted as much information as possible on there, and I wanted it as minimalist as possible.
The decals are going to hold me accountable for my driving again — no more brake stands.
Building the company for the second time has made me slow my roll. I’ve got a slow, steady upward trajectory this time.

Made this today because i wanted to know the actual temperature and humidity in the house.

It reminded me of somthing i might have seen on my aunt Barb and uncle Terry's houseboat back in the day.

My uncle Terry taught me how to build when i was young and its been a passion of mine ever since.

I'll do my best to pass it on Terry!

GARRETT CONCEPTS — Stepping Into a New Class of Craftsmanship

These brass signature plates just showed up, and they mark a turning point for me.

For years I’ve built one-of-a-kind architectural pieces — and now I'm building pieces with intention, weight, and artistry.

A client recently asked if I could put a name plate on the ten-foot corten cross I made for him. At first I didn’t understand why it mattered. Now I do.

When someone asks for your signature on a piece, it’s because they want to tell a story about it.
They want people to know who made it.
They want the work to carry a sense of identity and prestige.

These plates will go on every finished piece from here on out — sculptures, architectural features, maquettes — anything that carries the Garrett Concepts DNA.

This is more than branding.
It’s a promise to myself:

Build with intention.
Build with identity.
Build like the craftsman

Started cutting into the 4300 pound sandstone base for Ascension today. This piece is the first strike in the Forged Legacy series, and it sets the tone for where Garrett Concepts is going.

This stone will cradle a 10' corten steel column — sharp geometry, deep fractures, lit from below. The rendering shows the direction. This is the kind of work I’m building Garrett Concepts around, and this is the level I’m pushing toward.

More progress coming. This is just the opening move.

GARRETT CONCEPTS — BRANDING MATTERS

I took a moment today to throw the Garrett Concepts logo on my job box and set out the new patches, stickers, and gear. Seeing everything laid out like that reminded me why branding has always been one of my favorite parts of this company — it gives the work an identity. It turns metal, sweat, and ideas into a unified story.

And I’ve got to give a shout-out to J Wolfskill
Back in the early days, Jason handled all of my branding and social media. Now that I’m rebuilding Garrett Concepts myself, I realize just how much he brought to the table. The guy had a gift for making everything look sharp and consistent, and that helped shape the foundation this company stands on today.

This is the beginning of Garrett Concepts 2.0 — stronger brand, clearer vision, and a deeper appreciation for the craft from start to finish.

New projects coming. New designs. New sculptures and Architectural Fabrication.
The next chapter is about to get interesting.

Years ago my right-hand man and good friend — veteran Josh Hatler— and I made a series of metal Gadsden flags at Garrett Concepts.

I pulled this one back out recently and decided it was time for an upgrade. It had a uniform aged bronze patina, and I wanted to bring it to life again — to give it contrast, movement, and new energy.

I’m adding polished bronze highlights and reshaping it with an oxy-acetylene torch, bending it around a section of Schedule 40 pipe to give it that natural wave. The heat and patina together bring out every layer of character — fire, metal, and time.

This flag has always stood for resilience and refusal to back down. The rebuild is a reminder that strength isn’t about staying perfect — it’s about standing firm when tested.

Still in progress, but already showing the fight in it.

“Reforged.”

Almost ten years ago, my dad and I started Garrett Concepts. We poured everything we had into it — long nights, heavy steel, and a shared belief in building things that last.

Life took its turns, and for a while, I thought that chapter had closed. But sometimes what’s forged in fire doesn’t break — it just takes time to cool, sharpen, and return stronger.

Today, Garrett Concepts is being reborn — not as a fabrication shop for hire, but as a focused studio blending sculpture, design, and architectural craftsmanship.

The new mission: to create lasting works of art and architectural metal that speak to strength, purpose, and faith.

I’m deeply grateful to Josh and Jason, two incredible friends who’ve helped me rebuild faster than I ever imagined — and to my family: my father Bruce and stepmom Michele, my mother Suzanne and stepdad Leroy, for their steady love and belief in me through it all.

> Forged Legacy: Ascension — From Steel to Spirit

This is a behind-the-scenes walkthrough of Ascension, part of my Forged Legacy series.

Every cut, fracture, and weld has intention. The base represents struggle and chaos — the raw foundation of life. As the column rises, the lines tighten and refine, symbolizing strength, faith, and renewal.

I wanted to share what goes into this process — not just the steel and fire, but the thought, patience, and prayer behind it.

⚒️ Forged in faith. Built by hand.

“Faith forged in fire.”

I built this 10-foot cross from raw corten steel — the kind that weathers and grows stronger with time. The rust is the testimony; it doesn’t hide from the elements, it endures them.

Every mark and weld tells a story about grace, resilience, and purpose.

🌿 “Growth” — by Garrett Concepts

This piece has a little history. Years ago, I built one for a landscaping company’s display yard — and decided to make a second to keep for myself.

Fast forward to now… I turned it into an Adventure Kids project and let my kids go wild spray-painting it. Later, I came back in and blended their colors into the final finish.

It’s become a reminder that growth isn’t clean or perfect — it’s layered, messy, and beautiful when you step back and see the whole picture.

Forged by hand.
Finished with heart.
