I found this unique wetland while collecting data for a management plan. Records show the pond has been here for over 100 years. Since the pond's construction, the wetland has expanded up the drainage to form an important ecosystem. The heavy grass is deceiving. I sunk up past my ankles as I walked through the open field. Diverse wetland ecosystems should be fully protected during any forestry or land management activities. Hopefully, the client will heed my advice and leave this area to continue to serve as an important and diverse wetland and wildlife habitat.

I just completed an interesting project for a client in the Charlotte area who is in the process of developing an old farm into industrial land. Although I am saddened by the loss of the farmland and forest to buildings, I am thankful that I could locate and document 50 legacy trees on the project that will be protected during the development process. The trees flagged have diameters over 30 inches and are relics of past timber stands with ages of over 150 years, with some most likely 200 years old. It was a pleasure to just walk over the land in search of these beauties that hopefully will continue to grow as the land is developed.
