Andy joined the company in May of 2011 with nearly 20 years of experience in transportation infrastructure inspection, maintenance, and management. As President of Fickett Structural Solutions, he oversees the operations, performance, and business development of our offices and is also actively involved in consulting, contracting, and technical training.

Our inspections were “Routine”…but the weather certainly wasn’t! Tim Welter and James Biggers conducted Routine Bridge Inspections for the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT). The first three days of their trip, it was 80°F and sunny…but the last morning surprised them with a blizzard before wrapping things up with an afternoon of decent weather! James captured the experience in his photos below…first with snow, then with clear roads ten minutes later!

Throwback to 2017 and 2018: Fickett provided inspection support and inspection personnel to conduct an NSTM Inspection of the Kolekole Stream Bridge on the Island of Hawai’i.

Due to an equipment breakdown, the Hawai’i Department of Transportation recognized that rope access methods were a viable option. Fickett’s responsiveness and ability to mobilize to Hawaii on short notice allowed us to complete the inspection without missing HDOT’s deadline! The Fickett team used SPRAT rope access techniques to complete the inspection.

In 2018, Fickett was invited back to perform In-depth Inspections of the substructure units on the Kolekole and Hakalau Bridges.

Fickett’s Cole Maurer and Braeden Fruchtman traveled to San Francisco, CA, to inspect the Point Bonita Lighthouse Suspension Pedestrian Bridge using rope access methods. Located in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, this suspension bridge emulates the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. This inspection was completed under a contract that Volkert, Inc. has with the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration. We’re thankful for another opportunity to assist Volkert while working in such a beautiful area!

Throwback to 2024: The Fickett Team assisted with performing an In-Depth Inspection of the Tulalip Tribes Railroad Bridge over Interstate 5 in Washington State. This project took months of planning and coordination between Parametrix, Fickett, Tulalip Tribes, Applied Professional Services, and Washington Traffic Control (WTC). A lot went into this night inspection, including rope access, boom lifts, and timber Resistograph boring!
