☀️🧴Think of protecting your gelcoat from the sun in the same way you protect your skin. If you apply nothing, or forget to apply on schedule, you get burnt. There’s no such thing as a “real” ceramic versus everything else. There is an entire ceramics category filled with different solutions for different purposes.

🤔As boat owners, are we getting smarter or is there simply more information available to influence our decisions when it comes to maintaining our boats? A little of both, but it’s important to rule out a lot of the noise in the forums and comment sections from “arm chair” detailers that’ll tell you and sell you on “the only right way” to detail your boat.

💡Instead, whether you’re doing this yourself or hiring a professional, the best advice comes from a level head and an open-minded approach because at the end of the day, every boat is different. Nothing is a one-size fits all approach.

🛥️⚠️ Boat Forums and Facebook Groups will have you thinking that the pros only use one method and certain products, and if you don’t then you’re lesser-than or you’re “doing it wrong.”

👨‍🔬Times are changing. Chemistry is always evolving. Boat owners and Pros are getting smarter and there’s more information to prove complacency wrong.

🤝 We met with a detailer, had him compare his traditional solutions to ours and asked him for his honest opinion. Detailing isn’t a matter of “OR” it is a matter of “AND.” There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and a tool for every job.

🛥️✨ There’s so much misconception and misinformation out there about what causes oxidation, how it affects gelcoat, how to remove it and how to prevent it from returning. The fact of the matter is that (all) gelcoat oxidizes, but it can be prevented for periods of time (usually without the need for such aggressive measures at sanding, and simply by using the proper compounds, proper protection, proper application intervals, and the proper types of cleaners. A lack of longevity is the result of using inferior compounds and improper protection and maintenance routines. Period, end of story, hard stop. An actual need for sanding is typically the result of when extended periods of poor protection and maintenance have allowed oxidation to reach so deep into the gelcoat that a dedicated compound alone cannot do the job it was intended to do. Here is to this video saving you from sanding away precious layers of gelcoat before it’s necessary.

☀️ Think the worst sun damage is behind you? Think again.
Late summer UV is brutal—and your boat is still taking a beating.

You might be surprised to learn that UVB rays, ozone degradation, and humidity are even harsher on your gelcoat and vinyl in August and September than earlier in the season.

🧪 We broke down the science behind why now is when real damage happens—and what you can do to prevent it.

📣 If you're going to be on the water in the next 60 days, this one’s a must-read.

When most boaters think of sun damage, they picture the peak of summer: July heat, blazing UV rays, and long days on the water. But what if we told you that late summer—those deceptively beautiful days in August and September—can be even more damaging to your boat’s surfaces? It’s not just a...
