Today marks the beginning of National Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month - an annual reminder of the critical importance of early detection for a disease that afflicts millions of Americans. Often left undiagnosed and untreated, PAD is the leading cause of limb amputations, disproportionately occurring in BIPOC populations.
This September, as we work to increase awareness for PAD, we honor the outstanding career of Dr. Foluso Fakorede, a champion for real change in the field of cardiovascular disease. In 2015, Dr. Fakorede started the Cardiovascular Solutions of Central Mississippi with a clear mission to educate, provide quality access to those who face systemic barriers, and to ultimately stop amputations – the most preventable surgery in our country. His commitment to the Delta region of Mississippi has been unwavering and life-altering for the community and its residents. Dr. Fakorede has become a pillar of the community, working tirelessly to build bridges with churches and other organizations to provide much-needed education about a disease most didn’t know existed - even after losing a limb at the hands of another physician.
Join us in saluting Dr. Fakorede and help spread PAD awareness this month. To learn more about Dr. Fakorede’s work or to get involved, visit padadvocate.com. Proud to stand behind the people who keep saving lives.
Cardiovascular Solutions of Central Mississippi has reduced amputations by 88% over a period of 4 1/2 years.
