HDG has completed the first design for a micro-grid in the Arizona desert (for a farm). Micro-grids can be totally independent of the utility, as is the case here. The cost of energy (LCOE) is about 20-30 cents/KWh with a solar plus storage system like this one with a Tesla storage battery. The alternative would be a diesel generator at 40-50 cents per KWh, or an expensive grid interconnection for a remote location like this.
