Experienced CNC Swiss Machinist, Live Tool Lead – Midwest Automatic Products
Location: Melrose, Minnesota
Midwest Automatic Products (MAP) is a full service precision machine shop with over 50 years of proven success, quality, and long term customer relationships. We specialize in CNC and automatic screw machining, delivering tight tolerance components for a variety of industries.
We are seeking an experienced CNC Swiss Machinist - Live Tool Lead, to join our team and help us continue our tradition of precision machining and exceptional value.
What you’ll do:
• Set up, adjust, and operate CNC Swiss Lathes (e.g., Tsugami or similar) as well as other live tool lathes, to produce precision turned components to print.
• Program new parts at the machine. (Programming with CAM software is a bonus!)
• Interpret engineering drawings, select appropriate tooling, and optimize feeds and speeds for quality and efficiency.
• Perform first piece and in process inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.
• Make offset changes and minor program edits as needed to maintain tight tolerances and part quality.
• Troubleshoot dimensional or surface finish issues, collaborating with quality and engineering as needed.
• Follow established quality procedures, documentation, and safety guidelines in a fast paced production environment.
• Support quick changeovers and efficient production flow to meet customer delivery expectations.
• Assist the Foreman by overseeing the production in the Live Tool Department.
What you bring:
• 5+ years of hands on experience running and setting up CNC Swiss Lathes (not just operating pre set jobs).
• Strong blueprint reading, along with solid shop math skills.
• Proven ability to hold tight tolerances in a production environment.
• Comfort working in a smaller, team oriented shop where versatility and reliability matter.
• Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to doing the job right the first time.
