The rewards of a new heat bed!

In our from earlier this week our largest FDM machine was undergoing some maintenance.

Today, we have a 450 mm tall test piece that printed in 12 hours. We printed this part and found that ringing occurred due to our frame so a couple more adjustments left.

Maybe if we throw a pellet extruder on it, the print would be done in 2 hours?

Did you know we do FDM printing?

FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printing is the process by which plastic goes through a heat change to allow it to be laid down layer by layer and cools to allow a 3D model to be built.

These parts usually have a coarse surface finish but the material library is extensive. Parts can generally only be produced one at a time so it is great for one-off or small-run manufacturing.

Stay tuned for an in depth look of how FDM allowed us to make custom downspout connectors for a large apartment complex in Melbourne.
