MoonPie is a typical girl…..always worried about her weight. Heck, she’s got a 1200-pound body to maintain.
As an adult Belted Galloway cow, the general rule is about 2.0–2.5 percent of her body weight in dry matter per day. At 1,200 pounds, that’s roughly 24–30 pounds of dry matter. Dry matter means everything from fresh grass or hay to grains or feed.
That’s where we come into play. Napa Auto Parts and Feed Store in Meeker provides the 20% Big Mac High Energy Breeder Cubes for MoonPie’s daily rations.
MoonPie lives at Buffalo Feathers Farm on the west side of Meeker. Her owners, Keith and Amanda Dobbs, secured her as a rescue from western Oklahoma. She has a couple of other bovine friends at Buffalo Feathers Farm. There’s another belted, even though she’s a Red Belted Galloway, named Cr****ie. Then there’s Butterscotch and Pumpkin, a pair of Scottish Highlands.
They are “guarded” by a couple of donkeys…..AppleJack and MoonPie.
Notice the theme the Dobbs have going…..all the animals have “food” names. MoonPie shares her range cubes with the other critters.
“We love having Napa Auto Parts and Feed Store just down the road from us. It’s soooooo convenient, the prices are usually cheaper than the big stores in Shawnee, Chandler, and Prague, and the customer service is amazing,” stated Keith Dobbs.
“When I walk in the door, Eric greets me by name. You don’t find that at most places.”
We get our feed from Big “V” Feeds, Inc. in McAlester. They produce quality products for MoonPie and others. This cube has grain, plant protein, molasses, roughage products, and minerals like calcium, phosphorus, salt, potassium, and vitamins A and D.
“On behalf of MoonPie, we thank you,” stated the Dobbs.
