The scariest thing in your warehouse may not be the Halloween decorations.

Bent rack uprights, damaged components, and equipment that’s overdue for attention can be a lot more frightening.

Keep the scares where they belong this Halloween by inspecting and maintaining you pallet racks.

Happy Halloween from Cranston Material Handling!

Behind the Project: From Layout to Installation

A finished project only tells part of the story.

For this Behind the Project, we’re taking a look at how the layout and design stage helped shape the finished installation.

Before the installation starts, the space was planned around the customer’s facility, available footprint, and what our client was looking to achieve. That planning gives everyone a clear picture of the project before product is ordered and helps account for the details that matter once the material arrives.

From the initial layout to the finished space, take a look behind the project and see how the plan came together.

Material doesn’t always need to move from Point A to Point B on the same level.

Incline and decline conveyors allow products to move between different elevations while keeping material flowing through the operation.

They can be used to connect production areas, move products between floors or mezzanine levels, overcome changes in elevation, or simply make better use of available facility space.

But the incline itself is only part of the equation. Product size and weight, conveyor angle, speed, available space, and how the material enters and exits the conveyor all play a role in the design.

The right conveyor keeps material moving, even when the path isn’t level.

Your pallet rack doesn’t have to collapse to tell you there’s a problem.

Most rack damage gives you warning signs long before a serious failure occurs. The key is knowing what to look for.

Forklift traffic, repeated loading and unloading, and everyday warehouse activity can take a toll on a racking system over time. Some damage is obvious, but other issues can be much easier to overlook.

A few things worth paying attention to:

Bent or twisted uprights
Damaged beams or connectors
Missing or broken safety clips
Loose or damaged anchors
Impact damage near the base of uprights
Racks that appear out of alignment
Damaged wire decking or other components
Finding damage is only the first step. Understanding its severity and determining the appropriate next step is just as important.

We put together a guide covering what to look for, why rack damage happens, and when it may be time to schedule a professional inspection.

Your pallet rack doesn't need to fail before you start paying attention to what it's telling you.

The best partition is the one that looks like it belongs there.

This wire partition was designed around the existing layout, including the stairwell, walkways, walls, and overhead conditions.

That flexibility is one of the advantages of wire mesh partitions. Rather than changing the facility to accommodate the enclosure, the system can be configured to fit the space and create the separation the application requires.

Every facility presents a different set of conditions. The solution should account for them.

A workbench should be designed around the work happening on it.

These industrial workbenches combine a durable work surface with integrated drawer and cabinet storage, giving employees dedicated space for tools, equipment, parts, and day-to-day materials right where they’re needed.

But the configuration doesn’t have to stop there. Workstations can be built around the application with shelving, power, lighting, accessories, equipment integration, and different storage layouts.

Whether it’s used for inspection, testing, assembly, maintenance, or production, the goal is to build the workstation around the task, not force the task around the workstation.

Long materials require a different approach to storage.

Long storage racking provides dedicated space for materials that don’t fit neatly into traditional pallet storage, helping keep products organized, accessible, and off the floor.

For this facility, the system creates defined storage locations while making better use of the available vertical and floor space.

The right rack isn’t just about adding storage. It’s about designing storage around the material you actually need to handle.

Some processes need their own space. That doesn’t always mean building a new room.

Industrial curtain systems can create separation exactly where it’s needed while working around the existing layout of a facility.

They can be used to isolate production areas, contain dust and debris, control temperature, separate processes, or create dedicated work zones—all without the time and permanence of traditional walls.

And because every application is different, the curtain, track, height, configuration, and access points can all be designed around the operation.

Define the space without rebuilding the space.

Not every heavy lift requires a forklift. And not every repetitive lift should be done by hand.

When employees are repeatedly lifting, positioning, or moving materials throughout a shift, even relatively manageable loads can become demanding over time.

Ergonomic lifting systems, like this Gorbel Easy Arm, are designed to give operators greater control over the load while reducing the physical effort required to move and position it.

Whether it’s handling boxes, components, sheet material, or finished products, the system can be configured around the specific load and task; Making it easier to pick, move, position, and place materials where they need to go.

Sometimes improving a workstation isn’t about changing the entire process. It’s about taking the strain out of repetitive tasks.

The best working height isn’t always the same height.

In manufacturing and material handling operations, employees are constantly loading, unloading, positioning, and working with materials of different sizes and weights. A fixed-height workstation doesn’t always make sense.

Lift tables and pallet positioners bring the work to the operator, allowing loads to be raised or lowered based on the task at hand. From individual workstations to larger integrated production systems, they can reduce unnecessary bending, reaching, and manual handling throughout the process.

And as these applications show, the solution can be as simple as a single lift table or engineered into an entire production line.

The goal isn’t just to lift the load. It is to put either the employee or the material at the optimal height for the work that needs to be accomplished.
