We’re excited to announce that Amanda Smith with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is presenting at the Battelle 2026 Chlorinated Conference on June 3, 2026. Amanda will be sharing the successful completion of a field-scale remediation initiative at the U.S. Port of Entry in Detroit as part of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project, a collaboration between MDOT and the WDBA - Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority. Amanda Smith (MDOT) and Kevin Lund (MSG) are attending, and we hope to see you in Fort Worth, TX.
This project addressed legacy environmental challenges from historical industrial activities, including the remediation of trichloroethylene (TCE)-impacted soils, removal of underground storage tanks, and management of asbestos-containing materials. Our teams conducted electromagnetic surveys, excavated 16 TCE “hot spots,” and managed 19 distinct waste streams, while overcoming complex urban, logistical, and environmental conditions.
Through innovative field strategies and close coordination among partners and regulatory agencies, we removed over 15,000 tons of contaminated materials, implemented advanced v***r mitigation, and achieved Parcel Project Ready (PPR) status. This work is paving the way for the new international crossing, supporting both environmental stewardship and economic development.
Congratulations to everyone at MDOT, WDBA, Bridging North America, MSG and the entire project team for their dedication and expertise in delivering this critical infrastructure between Michigan and Canada.
