No no no no no! Never leave your tools inside high voltage equipment, especially like this! No need to worry this equipment has safely been turned off and locked out to prevent accidental re-energization. While performing preventative maintenance on a 480 volt switchboard it is common to get busy, tired, forgetful or just plain dumb and set a tool down, like in this picture. If power were to come back online with this tool like this 💥 you could expect something like a stick of dynamite 🧨 level explosion, except about 10 times hotter. Don’t be a fool - don’t set down your tool... in switchgear... across 480 volt buss... bye bye torque wrench

What a job! Here’s a few pics behind the scenes from a recent breaker rebuild job. All 8 breakers were fixed mounted 480v breakers. Sized between 800 amp all the way up to 3200 amp. Some took a fork lift to get out !
First pic is of behind a 3200 amp main breaker! What a bear of a circuit breaker

I finally got my Scooby snack ! While doing preventative maintenance on some 480 volt square d switchboards found this gem on the floor underneath high voltage cables! Not a safety concern while in the floor but if it gets between some wire terminations, watch out!

Someone’s been busy! We were currently working on a Siemens sds circuit breaker retrofit project. When your breaker gets very old you sometimes need to remove it from service and give it a little tlc. With this project we went one step further and installed a new “brain” into the breaker, the red square on the front left of breaker. New brains = safer more reliable breakers = awesomeness.

Technical info:
The new trip unit is an AC Pro 2 from utility relay company out of charigan falls Ohio. Allows for selection of any ct ratios and extreme selectivity on overcurrent protection settings, increments of 10-50 amp steps between settings. Each one comes standard with long, short, instantaneous and ground fault, Communication port, sluggish breaker detection and power monitoring. Great company and great people to work with. Highly recommend 👍
