When an offshore platform in the Gulf needed a reliable spare generator, the choice was clear: IDEAL Electric.

Already familiar with IDEAL’s track record and OEM reliability, the facility turned directly to us for a matching generator to their nearly 30-year-old unit.

For offshore operations, reliability and minimal downtime are essential. With an IDEAL generator on standby, the platform is prepared to deliver consistent power, maintaining smooth operations for decades more.

Custom Generator. Complex Journey.

In 1996, IDEAL Electric supplied generators integrated with gas turbines for an offshore oil platform off the coast of India. Powered by gas turbines, these generators produce the electricity that keeps the platform running around the clock. Nearly 30 years later, it’s time for an upgrade—one that meets today’s stricter certifications for explosive and marine environments, while fitting seamlessly into the existing turbine package.

Replacing a generator offshore isn’t just about the equipment. It’s about solving complex logistical challenges: designing custom lifting plans, fabricating specialized equipment, and managing precise movements without cranes or heavy machinery. IDEAL Electric handles it all, mobilizing skilled personnel, custom-engineering the lifting gear, and carefully overseeing every movement on-site.

To make it happen, IDEAL:

Dismantled the old unit entirely on the platform
Shipped the new generator in sections from our Mansfield, Ohio, works via New York to Mumbai, then transferred it to a vessel bound for the platform
Designed and built custom lifting gear to move each section safely within the platform’s tight space limits
Reassembled and aligned the new generator to the existing gas turbine
Tested and brought the new generator online, ready for continuous operation in a certified hazardous offshore environment

When the work wraps up in late 2025 or early 2026, the platform will have the same proven IDEAL performance it’s relied on for decades—now fully compliant with modern safety and regulatory standards.

What happens when a motor from the 1970s, built by someone else, stops synchronizing? A Midwest municipal water plant recently faced this exact challenge—until IDEAL Electric got involved.

Though it wasn’t one of ours, the 1500 HP, 360 RPM, 4600 V synchronous motor was still in good shape—but it had lost its ability to synchronize to the grid. Our team quickly pinpointed the issue, replaced worn components, cleaned slip rings, and carefully restored its synchronization capability.

At IDEAL, we don’t just build motors designed to last generations—we keep other motors running just as long. Now fully restored, this decades-old motor is back in sync, pumping clean, reliable water to a Midwest community that counts on it.

At a nuclear power facility, every detail matters—especially when replacing critical equipment. One customer needed a new induction motor for a condensate pump that feeds cooling water to the towers. The challenge: the space was wedged between two risers, with no room to alter grating or support structures.

IDEAL designed a form/fit/function replacement motor that matched the original footprint exactly. Instead of costly facility modifications, the new motor can be lowered straight through a hatch from the ceiling and set directly in place. The result is a motor that's perfectly designed, perfectly fitted, and critical to keeping power flowing when it matters most.

⚙️ With IDEAL, even the toughest spaces get the perfect fit.

For decades, a major liquefied natural gas LNG plant in Algeria has relied on IDEAL Electric for power. The facility extracts natural gas and transforms it into LNG for export to Europe. A gas turbine connected to an IDEAL generator provides the electricity needed to keep everything running smoothly.

After more than 30 years in service, the original IDEAL generator from 1983 is ready for replacement. Thanks to a long-standing partnership, IDEAL has consistently provided maintenance and spare parts, keeping downtime minimal over the years.

The new IDEAL generator features advanced internal filters designed specifically for the harsh desert environment. It’s fully EX-certified to safely handle the explosive gas conditions at the plant, meeting strict regulatory requirements.

At IDEAL, reliability comes from decades of experience, careful engineering, and close relationships with our customers. No drama—just reliable performance, even in challenging places.
