⚡️ DC Armature ⚡️

A DC armature is comprised of a few key components, a commutator; a series of copper bars insulated individually from one another, windings; a series of wires tied into the commutator, and the core; stacked steel sheets to allow for armature cooling and conductivity.

A clean and smooth commutator is essential when considering the lifespan of the DC motor. The most common failure of all DC motors are from contamination to the commutator, causing shorts to ground, or carbon buildup within the bars of the commutator causing shorts between windings.

⚡️ Varnish ⚡️

Here at KBZ Electric we only coat our windings with the best varnish on the market. “ELAN-Guard® EM 59-60MR has low VOCs which cause pollution. Insurance companies and fire departments love it because of its high flash point.” While even being environmentally friendly, with the same buildup as the thickness of a human hair it can withstand readings of 8000 volts or greater.

In depth:
This video demonstrates the process of clearing the excess varnish out of the stator to prevent interference with the rotor. This is one of the many crucial steps in rebuilding a flawless motor with no binding, or dragging.
