Is college worth it?

In our latest Q&A and testimonial video, CEO Sachin Shivaram shares why higher education is about more than salary or job titles. The real return on investment includes building critical thinking skills, learning to work with others, staying curious, and having the humility to keep improving.

From leading Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry to supporting workforce development across the New North, Shivaram explains how education creates opportunity and drives growth for individuals and communities.

Hidden in the noise and heat of a foundry is a kind of quiet artistry.

Today we’re proud to launch our very first "Artist in Residence" program at Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry.

Championed by our board member Traci Schwartz, this idea has been years in the making. It’s rooted in a love for art. The Schwartz family, which has owned WAF for over a century, has long supported the arts through family members like acclaimed artist and fellow board member Berel Lutsky, and through the legacy of Lester Schwartz, a celebrated painter and sculptor. Their commitment to creativity and community laid the foundation for this program.

Inspired by the renowned residency at Kohler Co., we’re kicking off our own with Milwaukee-based metal artist Chris Redmond.

Chris isn’t just an artist. He’s lived the foundry life. He’s poured his own castings, built custom motorcycle parts, and knows what it means to work with heat, grit, and metal. He’s here to learn from our team, document their craft, and help us build a lasting program for future artists.

We look forward to seeing WAF through Chris’s eyes and to showing the world that metalcasting is an art form in its own right.

Thank you for visiting us, Congressman Grothman! It was a pleasure to show you our growing Manitowoc facility. We are happy you got to meet some of our fantastic people. We enjoyed the thoughtful conversation with you about policies to further strengthen the manufacturing sector in America and to support working families. As we discussed, our top policy priorities are (1) improving access to high quality child care, (2) continuing to invest in technical education, (3) continuing the R&D tax credit, and (4) ensuring our corporate tax rates are globally competitive. Come back any time!

Yesterday was one of our best days.

Each year on the Thursday before Labor Day, we celebrate our hard-working employees from the past and present. This year we had over 50 retirees come back for our annual retiree breakfast and tour. Their collective 2,100 years of experience form the foundation of our company as we continue to grow. It made us proud to see their pride as they marveled at our latest expansion.

The day continued with a festive meal for everyone. With our stomachs full of potato salad and our hearts full of optimism for the future, we head into a weekend of much-deserved rest – before everything starts up again on Tuesday.

One comment that resonated throughout the day was how much the make-up of our labor force has changed over the years. Like so many Midwestern manufacturing companies, we were built by the boomer generation of young men who are now mostly retired. But we have also always been a company of strong women and ambitious immigrants, starting with our founders Abe and Martha Schwartz.

Yesterday we promoted our first-ever woman to be a production supervisor at our ATEK Metal Technologies business unit. Krista Marrah joins women leaders across our other businesses who are smashing through glass ceilings (or metal ceilings, in our case :) and taking us to new heights.

Happy Labor Day!
