🚵 A Little Local Mountain Bike Excursion

Ever since I got my e-mountain bike, I’ve fallen back in love with mountain biking. There’s something about connecting with nature at a faster pace — it just hits different.

This week I took a short ride out at Muscatatuck State Park. The trails were beautiful, some nicely challenging, and a few that were flat-out too much for this old man 😂 But that’s what discovery rides are for.

Here’s the thing though — this kind of riding is fantastic exercise as you get older. It keeps your mind sharp, works your balance, and gets the blood pumping in a way flat road rides just can’t match.

I still love my paved road rides, don’t get me wrong. But this e-bike has me hunting down every local (and not-so-local) trail I can find 😁

Anyone have trail recommendations around Madison? Always looking for the next ride.

It was a rush job, but not rush quality.

Like I said in my last posts, it’s been a busy couple of weeks. And I tell you what, the heat hasn’t made it any easier 🥵. I’m glad it’s Labor Day Weekend because this old man and the rest of the guys in the shop need it.

I typically don’t do installs, but this customer had family coming over for the holidays and wanted this space to be safe for the kids. They had to have it done in a couple of weeks. Now, that’s a tight time frame even when we’re not busy — to design, weld, powder-coat, and install. But, by God, we did it. Along with all the extreme amount of other things we were doing.

This week really tested the shop’s capacity — but the team rose to the challenge and got it done. And honestly, I think it makes the finished piece look even more amazing.

This cozy cabin space was already a very cool spot, and this customer was all about quality, uniqueness, and — of course — safety.

We went with a more traditional style: square barrel spindles to match the custom chandelier, and canister pendant lights in the background. We tied the supporting post to the rafters to set off the block-and-tackle rope chandelier — and, of course, add extra rigidity to the whole project.

Had to take a little trip to Ohio yesterday. 🛻

It has been a crazy busy couple of weeks for us. One of our customers wanted to bring a particular pool fence vision to life with iron and wood. And who else better suited for the job than a company with “Iron and Wood” in its name? 😁

We made 21 fence panels in two weeks along with a crazy amount of other requests. My guys in the shop are performing miracles. We might be a tiny shop, but we deliver like big business. It’s all about having a system for success and great employees with focus on quality.

She loved the super cool post caps we made for her fence. She was so impressed with the quality and quick turnaround that she had to have us do the rest.

But since we were so busy, the old man had to be the delivery driver. 😅 Again, you do what needs to be done when you’re a small business.

Took a little time off to actually relax this weekend. Felt like I’d been going non-stop for a month straight.

Saw a meme the other day that said “business ownership is the freedom to pick which 16 hours of the day you work” 😂 — funny because there’s some real truth in there.

So this weekend my wife stole me away to see Tim McGraw at Riverbend in Cincinnati. Stayed the night, hit up Findlay Market the next morning. Then today I got some mountain biking in at Versailles State Park.

Sometimes you just need these little breaks to refocus — especially when you’re a creative and need some fresh inspiration.
