Wow! I can't tell you how many times I've been engaged in conversations about forest measurement technologies (it's my job) and said "one day we will just set up a scanner at plot center and create an exact model of the forest". Looks like that is coming to fruition. At $1.3 million dollars it isn't quite within reach of the average forester, but it does solidify my vision that we will get there. Check this out: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-08-16/laser-vision-reveals-queensland-forests-in-new/4893664?goback=.gde_125462_member_266747560 #%21

International scientists have converged on a Brisbane forest to test the ability of new laser technology to measure vegetation and help calculate carbon absorption.

Coming soon! We already have the best device of its kind on the market, but we are stepping up our game to an unprecedented level. If you demand the highest accuracy and precision available for your for your timber cruising or power line survey work, then the new VL5 will be a "must have" for you. It includes many new features, an awesome new laser sensor and like its predecessor the VL402, it is the only device to offer both ultrasound and laser measurements in the same device. Delivery will begin in September.

Do you know the difference between a threatened and endangered species? If not, check out this link: http://www.fws.gov/endangered/esa-library/pdf/t-vs-e.pdf. Where I live, the gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) is listed as threatened. At a maximum width of 6.15 inches as measured by my Digitech Professional caliper, this gopher tortoise burrow in my front yard is certainly that of a juvenile. Its mother has a much larger burrow (13.75 inches at the widest point) in my side yard. Can we help measure anything for you?
