Project Highlight: Boothbay Harbor, Maine 🌲

Our Territory Sales Manager, Alex Donnelley, stopped by a job site in Boothbay Harbor to check out the crew at Sealit Insulation Systems install 5.5" thermal TimberBatt.

At 5.5", TimberBatt delivers R-22 (third-party verified in ICC-ES ESR-5388). The batts friction fit snugly between studs, so there are no gaps for air to slip through. They’re also v***r open and made right here in Maine from residual wood chips left over from lumber milling.

Thanks to the Sealit team for having us on site, and for building better homes along the coast.

Every wall gets wet at some point. The question is whether it can dry. A v***r closed assembly can trap moisture between layers, where it sits against the sheathing. A v***r open assembly gives that moisture a path out, in both directions.

TimberBatt runs at 46 perms per inch and TimberBoard is v***r open too, so the whole wall can dry instead of hoping it never gets wet. Watch the animation for how moisture moves through our full wood fiber assembly.

Fire safety doesn’t have to come with a chemical tradeoff.

TimberBatt friction-fits right into the stud bay and dampens sound between rooms. That makes it a great fit for bedrooms, home offices, bathrooms, and media rooms. At 3.5", it has an NRC of 1.15, and tested wall assemblies reach STC 50+.

What does a Grade I install actually look like?

Every cavity filled completely, edge to edge, with no gaps, no voids and no compression. TimberBatt friction fits snug against the framing and holds there while the next trade works around it, which makes that standard a lot easier to hit.

October is Energy Awareness Month, so let's talk about where a house really loses energy. It is not just through the insulation.

1. Air leaks. Air gets through seams, joints and penetrations and takes heat with it. Fix: TimberBoard act as a continuous air control layer.

2. Thermal bridging. Heat escapes through studs that the cavity insulation never covers. Fix: TimberBoard covers the whole face of the wall, studs included.

3. Gaps and voids. Batts that don’t fully fill the cavity leave open paths at the edges and top. Fix: TimberBatt friction-fits edge to edge against the framing.

4. Compression. A batt squeezed around wiring or blocking gets thinner and loses performance. Fix: TimberBatt cuts cleanly to fit around wiring instead of being stuffed in.

Tech Tip: Control the dust 🪚

Same cut, same board, one big difference. Hook a vacuum to your saw when you cut wood fiber insulation and most of the dust goes into the shop vac instead of hanging in the air and settling all over the job site.

Faster cleanup, and a cleaner workspace.
